SUMMARYThe City of Black Hawk is currently accepting applications for the position of Communications Officer (Emergency 911 Dispatcher). As a Communications Officer, the employee is responsible for the operation of the emergency communications console, including the receipt of calls and proper dispatch of appropriate equipment and personnel to provide assistance to the citizens of Black Hawk in the areas of Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
Essential functions include but are not limited to answering incoming phone calls, which include emergency calls for Police, Fire, EMS, Public Works, and also Non-Emergency calls; dispatching appropriate personnel to handle any and all situations needing public safety or medical assistance; operating and monitoring various transmissions on FCC approved radio equipment; receiving, sorting, disseminating logs, processing and filing a variety of documents, reports, and other records alphabetically, numerically or by other established classification;
processing Black Hawk Municipal Court bonds; completing various special assignments within the department; assisting in the training and development of department personnel as related to dispatch; verifying validity of outstanding warrants, restraining orders, expirations, etc. through the use of the CCIC/NCIC computer system; attending various local, regional or national trainings; performing other duties as assigned.
Education and experience
Requires high school diploma or GED; valid Colorado driver’s license with a safe driving record; ability to work various shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Applicant must successfully complete several pre-employment tests including but not limited to typing, mathematical, and multi-tasking skills tests. Must be at least 18 years of age. The City of Black Hawk also conducts pre-employment testing, including a psychological exam, physical exam, drug testing, and background investigation as conditions of employment.
