Job Description

The Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating patient referrals within the family practice clinic. This role ensures timely processing of referrals, facilitates coordination between the clinic, radiology, laboratory services, and specialty providers, and supports continuity of patient care. The Referral Coordinator also manages prior authorizations for medications, working closely with providers, pharmacies, and insurance carriers to secure approvals and ensure patients receive necessary treatments without delay.

Duties Including but Not Limited To:
  • Process and manage patient referrals, including verifying insurance eligibility, submitting required documentation, and ensuring timely completion.
  • Utilize the EHR system to enter, track, and coordinate referrals, orders, and authorizations.
  • Facilitate communication with specialty providers, pharmacies, and internal departments regarding referral and authorization status.
  • Submit, monitor, and follow up on prior authorizations and appeals to support continuity of patient care.
  • Coordinate patient flow between the clinic, laboratory, radiology, and specialty services.
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Provide professional customer service, including answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and addressing patient inquiries.
  • Support clinic operations by maintaining supplies, following policies, and ensuring a safe, clean, and compliant environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with providers and staff while demonstrating flexibility in a fast-paced setting.
