A Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical and administrative support to medical and/or psychiatric providers and their patients in an outpatient setting. Responsibilities include preparing for patient visits, performing assigned clinical tasks, rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs, performing point‑of‑care testing, assisting in minor procedures, fielding patient phone calls, obtaining prior authorizations, and maintaining patient care supplies.

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1 year as a Medical Assistant or in a clinical support position in a medical setting
• Preferred: 3 years as a Medical Assistant
• Preferred:
  Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

Starting pay is $19.00 and ranges up to $22.14 per hour, adjusted for preferred education and certifications.

Employee must occasionally lift or move 15–50 pounds, walk, sit, stand, kneel, climb, balance, and stoop. Ability to sit for extended periods at a computer and travel between AHS locations is required. Possible exposure to communicable disease. Normal workplace noise level.

• Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic classifications, and medications
• Completes schedule and visit pre‑prep to anticipate provider and patient needs
• Rooms patients and collects clinical information (medication list, allergies, concerns)
• Accurately measures and records vital signs (BP, HR, RR, height, weight)
• Communicates with patients via phone and in person, documenting interactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
• Assists provider with scheduling, directs patient flow, and communicates delays
• Accurately completes and records point‑of‑care testing (e.g., Urine Drug Screen, A1C)
• Administers medication and immunizations as instructed by the RN or provider
• Cleans and disinfects exam tables, counters, equipment, and devices per infection control guidelines
• Obtains prior authorizations for medications, supplies, tests, or referrals
• Assembles equipment and supplies, prepares trays for minor procedures
• Communicates diagnostic and laboratory results to patients as instructed by provider
• Provides patient education as instructed by RN or provider
• Facilitates tele‑health visits, including patients participating from home or clinic
• Current driver’s license, ability to be commercially insured, and maintain a clean driving record
