Position Summary

We are seeking a Medical Assistant who will provide clinical and administrative support to medical and/or psychiatric providers and their patients in an outpatient setting. The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for preparing for patient visits, performing assigned clinical tasks, rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs, performing point‑of‑care testing, assisting in minor procedures, fielding patient phone calls, obtaining prior authorizations and maintaining patient care supplies.

The MA works with an integrated, multi‑disciplinary team and may be assigned to work with primary care providers, psychiatric providers or both.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year as a Medical Assistant or in a clinical support position in a medical or behavioral health setting
  • Preferred: 3 years as a Medical Assistant and CMA certification (Certified Medical Assistant)
Salary

Starting pay is $21.50 and ranges up to $24.64 per hour, including a $2.50 locale differential at our Gunnison Springs locations, as well as preferred experience and education described above.

Physical Demands

Employee must occasionally lift and/or move 15 pounds up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Employees are frequently required to walk, sit, stand or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. Must have the ability to sit for longer periods at a computer. Employees must be able to travel between AHS locations. Possible potential exposure to communicable disease.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. AHS may make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Required Skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic classifications and medications
  • Completes schedule and visit prep to anticipate provider and patient needs prior to visit
  • Rooms patients and obtains clinical information, such as medication list, allergies and patient concerns to facilitate clinic visit
  • Accurately measures and records vital signs (BP, HR, RR, height, weight)
  • Communicates with patients in person and via phone with a high level of customer service regarding medications, appointment reminders, test results and other questions, and documents communication in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Assists provider with staying on schedule, directs patient flow and room turnover and communicates with providers and patients/families when there are any delays
  • Accurately completes and records point‑of‑care testing, such as a Urine Drug Screen or A1C test
  • Administers medication and immunizations as instructed by the RN or medical provider
  • Cleans and disinfects exam tables, counters, equipment and medical devices per established infection control guidelines
  • Obtains prior authorizations for medications, and other supplies, tests or referrals when needed
  • Assembles equipment and supplies and prepares trays for minor procedures
  • Communicates diagnostic and laboratory results to patients as instructed by medical provider
  • Provides patient education as instructed by RN or medical provider
  • Facilitates tele‑health visits, which may include a patient participating in a visit from home, or a patient coming into a clinic and meeting with an off‑site medical provider
Additional Eligibility Requirements
  • Annual flu immunization
  • Annual TB screening
  • De‑escalation training within 90 days of hire
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
