Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a compassionate and dependable Medical Assistant (MA) to support our Rural Health Clinic on a PRN basis.
The Medical Assistant works under the direction of a physician, healthcare provider, or Registered Nurse to assist in delivering high-quality patient care. This role supports clinic operations through patient intake, assisting with procedures, performing point-of-care tests, administering medications and immunizations, and ensuring accurate documentation within the electronic health record.

Key Responsibilities Patient Intake & Clinical Support- Room patients and complete intake assessments including vital signs, medical history, medications, and allergies
- Assist providers with exams and minor procedures
- Perform CLIA-waived point-of-care laboratory tests as ordered
- Perform EKGs, nebulizer treatments, ear lavage, dressing changes, and other clinical procedures within scope of practice
- Administer medications and immunizations as ordered by the provider
- Follow the seven rights of medication administration
- Document all medications and treatments accurately in the electronic health record
- Follow up on outstanding patient orders, referrals, and prior authorizations
- Respond to patient phone calls and portal messages appropriately
- Assist with scheduling follow-up appointments and coordinating patient care
- Provide patient education regarding medications, procedures, and preventive care
- Reinforce provider instructions and treatment plans
- Promote preventive health and wellness education
- Maintain exam rooms and clinical supplies
- Assist with inventory and supply monitoring
- Ensure patient documentation is accurate and complete in the electronic health record
- Support clinic workflows and quality improvement initiatives

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
- Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience preferred
- Outpatient clinic or physician office experience preferred
- CLIA waived laboratory testing experience preferred
- Immunization program experience preferred
- Current Colorado Medical Assistant certification preferred but not required
- Current AHA BLS certification for healthcare providers required
- Strong patient care and clinical support skills
- Ability to perform patient intake and clinical procedures efficiently
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems and basic computer programs
- Outpatient clinic setting with frequent patient interaction
- Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and medical equipment
- Moderate noise level with frequent interruptions
- Requires standing, walking, lifting, and assisting patients during procedures
- Base Compensation Range: $18.00 - $22.38 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader.
- Differential Pay: PRN Differential: PRN Employees in this position receive a PRN Differential of an additional $1.00 per hour.
