JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a compassionate, adaptable, and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our dedicated team at a Rural Health Clinic. In this role, you will support healthcare providers in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to a diverse rural population. You’ll perform both clinical and administrative duties, often serving as a key liaison between patients and providers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The MA assists the Provider with patients, including preparing patients and the examination rooms; taking initial medical history for the chart, taking vital signs, making lab and x-ray appointments, and explaining the preparations to the patients. In addition, assists the Physician in all special procedures, as required. This position will promptly intervene with appropriate action in an emergency. Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

The MA carries out physician/provider orders. This position handles phone calls as directed by the physician, such as calling in prescriptions, and notifies patients of diagnostic testing results. This incumbent gives injections and medications prescribed by the physician.

The MA is responsible for some patient education, completing physical forms and referral arrangements, and assists in maintaining a large volume and variety of medical records in accordance to office procedures.

The MA must be able to incorporate observation and assessment skills and differentiate between critical and non-critical patient conditions to initiate appropriate procedures.

The MA is responsible for proper handling and storage of all medications stored in the office.

Performs office testing such as spirometry, tympanometry pulse oximetry, and office lab procedures.

The MA is responsible for keeping exam rooms clean and properly stocked with supplies. Demonstrates proper handling and storage of all medications stored in the clinic.

Cleaning and sterilization of instruments and equipment, as trained and requested.

Works and communicates cooperatively with team members to identify and complete responsibilities and meet department goals. Participates in department activities to improve patient care systems, shares new information with all team members, attends team meetings, and effectively orients/mentors’ new staff as requested.

Maintains current knowledge and skills applicable to job assignment through continuing education or professional organization.

Follows all procedures and policies and demonstrates competency and proficiency as required.

Regular and predictable attendance.

Continuous learning in both personal and professional development. Consistent review, comprehension and reply of company email and related correspondence.

In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon MMH needs or requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM

High school diploma or equivalent required

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred, CNA and EMTs can work as MA in accordance to the 800 Rule

Certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) strongly preferred

CPR certification required

Prior experience in a rural or primary care setting is a plus

Strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills
