We can Count on you to:

  • Evaluate submissions, including applications, financials, loss runs, contracts, and other underwriting data, to determine acceptability of risk.
  • Select, price, structure, quote, bind, and manage MPL accounts with a focus on disciplined underwriting and sustainable growth.
  • Partner with leadership to help develop and refine underwriting appetite, guidelines, coverage positions, pricing strategy, and workflow for the new program.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale and retail broker partners to drive submission flow and market presence.
  • Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers while balancing production goals and underwriting discipline.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, rate adequacy, loss trends, and industry developments to identify opportunities and emerging issues.
  • Collaborate with actuarial, claims, legal, operations, product, and compliance partners to support program development and execution.
  • Provide underwriting mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members as the program grows.
  • Assist with product enhancement, coverage wording review, and competitive market analysis.
  • Ensure adherence to internal underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and delegated authority protocols.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting files, documentation, and data quality within policy administration and workflow systems.
What you need to have:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to underwrite complex professional liability risks and make independent decisions within authority.
  • Strong knowledge of MPL coverage forms, policy structure, rating considerations, and claims drivers.
  • Experience building or scaling books of business, products, or programs is strongly preferred.
  • Established broker relationships and proven ability to develop business in a competitive market.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and portfolio management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with evolving priorities.
  • Proficiency with underwriting systems, Microsoft Office, and data-driven decision-making tools.
  • 7 to 15+ years of underwriting experience in professional liability, with meaningful experience in Miscellaneous Professional Liability or adjacent E&O lines.
Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with program business, delegated authority environments, or MGA/MGU platforms.
  • Experience contributing to product design, filing support, or underwriting guideline development.
The successful candidate will be:
  • A technically strong and disciplined underwriter
  • Commercially minded and relationship-driven
  • Comfortable operating with autonomy and accountability
  • Excited by the opportunity to help build a new program from the ground up
  • Focused on profitable growth, not just top-line production
