Job Description
Colorado Mountain College is building one of the region’s first comprehensive interpreter workforce pipelines, integrating certification-aligned curriculum, real-world practicum, ethical AI training, and strong employer partnerships. We are seeking nationally certified, experienced interpreters to serve as core instructors for our accelerated 120‑hour, 13‑week interpreter training program, launching across several campuses as part of a statewide effort to expand language access in rural mountain communities.
An equivalent or applicable combination of education and/or experience that enables the duties and responsibilities of this position is required, including teaching experience in continuing or community education.
Required Qualifications- National or state interpreter certification: CCHI, NBCMI, OLA/NCSC, NAJIT, or another recognized equivalent.
- 3–5+ years of professional interpreting experience in healthcare, courts, education, or community settings.
- Proven experience teaching, training, or mentoring adults.
- Expertise in at least one specialization track:
Medical interpreting, Court/legal interpreting, or Community/educational interpreting. - Strong knowledge of interpreter ethics, Title VI, ADA, and language access policy.
- Ability and willingness to travel in‑region (Dillon, Edwards, Leadville, Rifle, Glenwood Springs).
- Bilingual proficiency at a professional interpreter level (Spanish–English strongly preferred).
- Teaching responsibilities expected of all faculty include teaching course load as assigned.
- To teach classes as assigned by designated supervisor.
- To prepare appropriate lesson plans for each course in accordance with approved course outcomes.
- To develop a professional relationship with students and staff that encourages communication.
- To assist in the recruitment of students, as appropriate.
- When agreed upon and as appropriate, to assist in the evaluation of curriculum and instructional performance.
- To represent the college in a professional manner throughout the communities and college district by promoting a positive public image.
- To complete all required annual CMC training courses such as Title IX, Digital Accessibility, and Data Security and Privacy.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position will report to the campus non‑credit Community Education coordinator or campus designee.
Working ConditionsThis position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing, and driving; occasional handling of objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason, analyze, and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
