Vice President for Advocacy and Strategic Partnerships

Democracy Revival Center, a project of Goodnation Foundation, is hiring a Vice President for Advocacy and Strategic Partnerships to lead our engagement with institutional partners, advocates, and elected officials. This role will build and execute advocacy strategies that advance our structural analysis of the democratic crisis, cultivate relationships with key decision-makers, and position DRC as a trusted partner in the pro-democracy field.

The VP will develop and execute strategies that translate our analysis into actionable near-term demands and support the work of partners and coalitions that can move them forward. As a member of the senior management team, the VP will contribute to the overall strategic direction of the organization.

Position Type

This role is employed by Goodnation Foundation, fiscal sponsor of Democracy Revival Center.

Remote in the U.S. Full-time (40 hours/week), exempt, permanent employee; flexible schedule within standard business hours.

This role reports to the Executive Director.

The VP may eventually manage two direct reports within the Advocacy function.

Organizational Overview

The Democracy Revival Center is dedicated to fixing the cracks in the foundation of our political system. We develop and support the next generation of leaders and bring them into the fight for a more modern, democratic, representative political system; collaborate with key partners, leaders, and thinkers to promote new ideas about how to achieve it; and support the formation of new social movement organizations and pro-democracy campaigns to make a more modern, democratic, representative political system a reality.

Core

Responsibilities

Develop and Lead Advocacy Strategy

Set the strategic direction for DRC's advocacy program, in collaboration with the Executive Director and senior leadership team.
Develop and execute comprehensive strategies that advance DRC’s structural analysis of the democratic crisis, and lay the foundation for transformative change, with institutional partners, advocates, elected officials, and candidates.
Monitor and analyze the political landscape to identify strategic opportunities and navigate challenges.

Build and Lead Coalition and Stakeholder Management

Identify, cultivate, and manage strategic partnerships with ally organizations, labor unions, progressive networks, and across the pro-democracy ecosystem.
Develop and execute strategies to engage and align political leaders, movement stakeholders, labor leaders, and other allies toward transformational democratic change.

Oversee Communications and Narrative Strategy Program

Oversee the Communications Director and provide strategic direction for DRC's communications work.
Lead efforts to use communications strategies to position DRC's framework and analysis with media, political insiders, and movement leaders.
With other DRC leaders, generate narrative recommendations and strategies that can shift and support the field.

Team Leadership and Organizational Integration

Serve as a member of the senior management team responsible for setting the overall direction of the organization.
Contribute to organization-wide strategic planning, budgeting, and decision-making processes.
Manage and mentor a growing team, providing strategic direction and professional development.

Required Experience and Skills

10+ years experience in advocacy, campaigning, or organizing, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
Deep understanding of the structural dimensions of the democratic crisis (or the willingness to learn) and experience translating complex political analysis into actionable strategies.
Strong strategic thinking skills with ability to identify opportunities that build toward long-term transformation.
Experience managing partnerships with diverse stakeholders and building coalitions across different constituencies.
Experience managing staff and building high-performing teams.

Location, Travel, and Schedule Requirements

Open to remote within the United States. DC preferred.
May require travel up to once per quarter
Occasional weekends and evenings

Compensation

We use salary bands to support equity and transparency across the organization. Salary bands reflect the long-term growth potential for a role. We typically start new hires toward the lower end of the band to allow for raises over time as they settle into the position and expand their scope.

Vice President Salary Band: $160,000-$185,000. Expected hiring range: $160,000-$170,000.
