Role Overview
As a Sustainability Project Manager for PCL Construction Enterprises, Inc. in Denver, Colorado, Edmonton, Alberta (Corporate), you will lead sustainability and communication initiatives on large‑scale impactful projects—such as data centers—while shaping innovative solutions that support both project success and long‑term environmental goals. You will drive corporate sustainability programs, including decarbonization efforts, helping achieve Net Zero by 2050 and influencing meaningful change across projects and operations.
Responsibilities- Leading the implementation of sustainability and communication plans for large projects such as data centers, working cross‑functionally with project teams, Marketing and Communications, and Business Development.
- Developing a sustainability and communications plan to demonstrate PCL’s leadership in sustainable development and contribute to other internal and external sustainability communications, including corporate ESG reporting, materiality assessments, and presentations.
- Building relationships with clients, stakeholders, and the public to demonstrate PCL’s leadership in sustainable construction.
- Managing project budgets and schedules, identifying risks and opportunities, and ensuring sustainability projects are delivered per specifications, budget, quality, and schedule.
- Supporting PCL’s climate risk and emissions reporting regulatory requirements.
- Researching and implementing innovations—including AI—to apply cost‑effective, innovative solutions to the sustainability program.
- Project managing decarbonization projects to achieve GHG reduction targets, including jobsite decarbonization, fleet electrification, low‑carbon procurement, and owned asset decarbonization.
- Supporting efforts to execute PCL’s Sustainability Roadmap and Strategic Plan.
- Supporting districts to provide clients with expertise to profitably design, construct, and operate projects to meet the highest level of sustainability while meeting their goals.
- Leading a small team of direct and indirect reports, which may include students/interns, coordinators, or project engineers/consultants.
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in environmental science/studies, sustainability, communications and public relations, engineering, architecture, or business, coupled with expertise and experience in the construction industry; master’s degree is an asset.
- 5‑8 years of progressive construction and sustainability experience, including leadership and mentoring, with proven ability to manage complex projects; commercial and data center construction experience is an asset.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and speaking communication skills.
- Ability to envision and communicate creative, cost‑effective solutions to meet business needs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers.
- Strong planning, organizational, and time‑management skills with multi‑tasking and prioritizing capabilities.
- Ability to influence project designers and engineers while demonstrating strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Demonstrated initiative to proactively address challenges or gaps in sustainable construction.
- Strong customer service and solution‑provider abilities.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and internal operations systems: carbon accounting (GHG) software applications and utility management software.
- LEED accreditation is an asset.
- Willingness to travel throughout Canada and the United States.
The estimated salary range for this role is between $90,000—$125,000, based on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer. This requisition will be open for a minimum of five days.
