Position Title: Traffic Control Supervisor Lead

The Traffic Control Supervisor Lead oversees operations related to traffic control including road and highway construction projects. Leads field traffic control operations on high-profile or complex projects, ensuring safe and compliant execution. Serves as primary on-call coverage for Traffic Control Supervisor needs, oversees training for new hires, and manages yard, equipment, and occasional administrative tasks related to traffic control operations. Key responsibilities are field focused with 80% of the role and 20% yard and office focused.
Leads the oversight of traffic flow and ensures safety at construction sites. This is a DOT-related position and will be subject to the FMCSA regulations. The primary duty of the TCS Lead is to coordinate and inspect traffic control set-ups for conformance with approved traffic control plans, MUTCD guidelines and local entity requirements. Must have current TCS Certificate and must be willing to travel (Per Diem will be paid).
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Lead field operations on traffic control assignments, with emphasis on high-profile or complex jobs; ensure adherence to project plans, client requirements, and safety standards.
- Cover TCS call-outs, providing timely response and on-site leadership to maintain uninterrupted traffic control coverage.
- Train and mentor new hires on required paperwork, procedures, safety practices, and company policies; assess performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Supervise subcontracted temporary flaggers, including scheduling, deployment, cancellations, and performance oversight to meet project timelines and quality standards.
- Review daily Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) to confirm compliance with safety and operational standards; address discrepancies promptly.
- Monitor field operations for quality and compliance, including PPE use, signaling accuracy, and proper setup/teardown of traffic control devices.
- Equipment management: oversee yard activities, maintenance planning, repairs, cleaning, and logging of equipment as needed; ensure equipment is presentable and ready for deployment.
- Issue equipment to TCSs and track locations; maintain accurate sign-out/in logs and ensure accountability.
- Conduct regular inventories of TCS trucks; coordinate with the shop for needed repairs and service intervals; minimize downtime.
- Coordinate truck repairs with the shop, scheduling downtime to avoid project delays; follow up on service status and ensure timely completion.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation, including inventory lists, equipment logs, and maintenance history; ensure data is up-to-date for audits.
- Support administrative tasks as needed, including timesheets, incident reporting, and compliance documentation.
- Serve as the on-site stand-in for the Traffic Control Manager when they are out of the office, providing leadership, decision-making, and continuity of operations for field deployments. Ensure alignment with overall program goals, safety standards, and client requirements; elevate issues to the appropriate supervisor if guidance is needed.
