Summary

Estes Energetics is seeking an Analytical Chemist Technician to join our chemical and rocket motor manufacturing operations in Pueblo, CO. This crucial role involves supporting the compliance testing of chemicals for solid rocket propellant production and following standardized test methods for oxidizing salts. The successful candidate will help in operating our current and future analytical chemistry capabilities. This position will conduct diverse analyses ranging from mechanical property testing, thermochemical assessments, raw material analysis per military specifications, and particle size determination.

Work will be conducted under the supervision of a staff chemist. This is an excellent opportunity for both new graduates and experienced professionals to make a tangible impact on our innovative projects.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct routine chemical experiments, tests, and analyses using established procedures and protocols.
  • Assist in the implementation of new chemical production processes, sampling methods, and test procedures.
  • Perform mechanical property, thermochemical assessments, raw material analysis, and particle size analyses.
  • Record and document experimental procedures, data, and observations in a clear and organized manner and analyze data using appropriate software and methods.
  • Organize data into deliverable formats, such as tables and charts.
  • Follow ISO compliant practices for data collection, retention, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on research projects, sharing insights and findings in team meetings.
  • Perform calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and well-organized laboratory environment.
Competencies, Experience, and Education Required
  • BS in Chemistry or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of prior internship or experience in an analytical laboratory environment.
  • Basic understanding of chemical reactions, analytical laboratory techniques, and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail in conducting experiments and recording data.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and protocols in a laboratory setting.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain State and Federal explosives licenses including:
  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Pass State and Federal background checks.
  • 3+ years of prior internship or experience in an analytical laboratory environment.
  • Experience with energetic materials.
  • Working with a LIMS.

A laboratory facility working with energetic materials and samples.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable sitting, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Exposure to industrial machines, heat, cold, and explosives.
  • Frequent movement through a manufacturing environment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment appropriate to the work location.
Travel

Travel may be expected between Penrose and Pueblo Locations.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position working a 9/80 schedule. Occasional overtime may be required during busy periods.

Work Authorization

Must be a US citizen or national, a lawful permanent resident, or a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b. Must be able to hold a Department of War security clearance at the SECRET or higher level.
