About The Manufacturing Chemist – High Purity Specialty Chemical is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment used to manufacture, purify, and package high-purity specialty chemicals in a manufacturing environment. This hands-on role requires strong attention to detail, operational discipline, and the ability to consistently follow established procedures. Responsibilities include operating large-scale distillation and purification equipment, sampling, filling, inspecting, and packaging high-purity chemical products for shipment to customers around the world while maintaining the highest standards of product quality and contamination control.
The Manufacturing Chemist works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Analytical, and R&D teams to ensure safe operations, reliable processes, and consistent product quality. The position requires the ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication and coordination with cross-functional teams.
Following training, Manufacturing Chemists will work an 8-hour day or swing shift schedule, either 7:00 AM–3:30 PM or 3:00 PM–11:30 PM. Overtime may be required based on business needs. The position is based at Mead but may require work at either the Mead or Longmont facility based on operational needs.
Essential Functions Assemble, operate, inspect, and maintain scientific glassware and associated process equipment, including reactors, condensers, receivers, and vacuum systems.
Prepare and verify equipment for operation, including raw material charging, equipment inspections, line verification, and confirmation of proper equipment configuration.
Ensure process equipment and scientific glassware are properly assembled, leak-free, and ready for safe operation during distillation and purification processes.
Operate large-scale distillation, purification, and related chemical processing equipment in accordance with approved procedures.
Monitor and adjust process parameters such as temperature, pressure, vacuum, reflux ratio, and flow rates to meet established process requirements.
Follow established procedures as described by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), batch records, work instructions, and other approved operating procedures.
Collect process samples and support quality control testing activities as required.
Fill, inspect, label, and package finished high-purity chemical products in custom containers for shipment to customers.
Maintain the highest standards of product quality, cleanliness, and contamination control throughout manufacturing and packaging activities.
Execute complex, multi-step cleaning and decontamination procedures for process equipment and scientific glassware.
Verify equipment cleanliness and readiness for subsequent production activities in accordance with high-purity product and contamination control requirements.
Accurately document process data, observations, deviations, equipment conditions, and production activities in required records and systems.
Identify and communicate process issues, equipment concerns, quality concerns, and safety risks to supervision.
Participate in shift handovers and provide clear and accurate status updates regarding process conditions, equipment status, production activities, and outstanding issues.
Assist with basic equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs as appropriate and within training and assigned responsibilities.
