About the Tabor Capital Campaign: In 1879, riding high on the silver boom, Horace and Augusta Tabor built the Tabor Opera House to bring culture to the rough‑and‑tumble mining community of Leadville. With a stage that once saw luminaries like Oscar Wilde, John Philip Sousa, and Buffalo Bill, the Tabor was named a National Treasure and one of Colorado’s Most Endangered Places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The building is nationally acclaimed for celebrating the history of the West. In 2016 a group of volunteers worked with the City of Leadville to purchase the Opera House. Programming, rehabilitation and operations are run via the nonprofit Tabor Opera House Preservation Foundation through a 50-year agreement with the City. The project has successfully completed 3 exterior building rehabilitation phases over the last 6 construction seasons, (primarily funded by state and foundation grants) and is currently working on a roof replacement project to occur in 2026 or 2027.
