Infectious Disease Nurse Position
Western Infectious Disease Consultants, PC (WIDC) is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Infectious Disease Infusion Services team. This role provides hands-on clinical care in a specialized outpatient infusion setting, serving patients receiving long-term IV antimicrobial therapy, biologics, vaccines, and infusion treatments. Pay: $40.28 - $44.51 per hour
Location- Lakewood & Broomfield, Colorado
- Full-Time (4 days; 2 at Broomfield and 2 at Lakewood, rotating weekends)
The Primary Nurse plays a critical role in coordinating and delivering high-quality nursing care for patients undergoing infectious disease infusion therapies. This position emphasizes continuity of care, patient education, and close collaboration with physicians, pharmacy, and infusion staff.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct nursing care in outpatient infusion centers, including:
- Peripheral IV placement
- PICC/MIDLINE/PORT care, vascular device, and dressing changes
- Phlebotomy and vascular access troubleshooting
- Administer IV medications, vaccines, and long-term antimicrobial therapies per provider orders
- Serve as Primary Nurse for assigned patients across multiple visits and treatment plans
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and intervene per clinical protocols
- Educate patients and caregivers on infusion therapy, IV/PICC care, infection prevention, and warning signs
- Communicate effectively with physicians, pharmacy, and staff regarding patient condition, labs, and response to therapy
- Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Maintain compliance with the Colorado Nurse Practice Act, CDC, OSHA, Joint Commission, and WIDC policies
- Participate in staff meetings, quality initiatives, and compliance activities
- Order, stock, and maintain infusion supplies, equipment, and logs
- Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment between patient visits
- Assist with laboratory draws and medical assistant tasks as needed
- Participate in assigned on-call coverage, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Maintain regular clinical availability at the Broomfield infusion clinic (2 days/week) and at the Lakewood infusion clinic (2 days/week), rotating weekends (shortened hours)
- Assist with medication mixing when necessary
- Support physicians with travel medicine education and vaccination services
Required:
- Current, unrestricted Colorado RN license in good standing
- BSN or diploma in nursing from an accredited program
- Minimum 5 years of nursing experience (infusion or infectious disease experience preferred)
- BLS certification
- Strong communication, organization, and patient education skills
Preferred:
- PICC certification
- 3CG ultrasound competency
- Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
- Typing proficiency of 60–70 WPM
- Outpatient medical clinic and infusion center
- Moderate noise level
- Routine exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious agents with appropriate PPE
- Specialized infectious disease practice
- Collaborative physician-led clinical environment
- Meaningful long-term patient relationships
