Overview
The position oversees the daily operations and personnel as well as actively participates in complex tasks and projects related to parks, open space, and trails. This individual will supervise staff, allocate work assignments, and provide oversight of contractors. They will participate in the construction, maintenance and repair of the Town’s parks and grounds.
This role may also collaborate with the Operations Supervisor-Public Works on tasks and projects involving streets, sewers, and related infrastructure. This position is not eligible for remote work and is required to work from the office, at Public Works, during normal business hours and occasional nights and weekends.
Supervision ReceivedWorks under the general supervision of the Public Works Operations Manager.

Responsibilities- Supervise and lead park maintenance crews in grounds upkeep, landscaping, tree pruning, irrigation system management, facility repairs, and safety inspections.
- Plan, organize, and execute seasonal turf maintenance, planting, pruning, and pest control for parks and grounds.
- Provide oversight of subcontractors including developing Requests for Proposals, selection of contractors, and contract administration.
- Coordinate special event setups requiring park closures or space management.
- Organize and coordinate staff for snow removal and any other emergency management responses.
- Oversee the scheduling, inspection, maintenance, and repair of park infrastructure including playground equipment, irrigation, signage, walking trails, restroom facilities, picnic areas, and sports fields.
- Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate staff while fostering technical development and safe work practices.
- Assists crew with difficult or complex tasks; performs a variety of skilled, technical, and maintenance work as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining safe operating conditions and supplies necessary to ensure safety equipment is available to all workers.
- Oversee the safety of assigned maintenance workers and equipment operators by instructing individuals in proper safety procedures and monitoring work in progress.
- Serves as a backup to the Operations Supervisor-Public Works and when necessary, may perform the duties of the Public Works Operations Manager during their absence.
- Provides recommendations regarding equipment purchases.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with Town safety policies.
- Assists Operations Manager in development of budgets.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum of Five (5) years of experience relating to the construction, repair and maintenance of parks, open space, or trails.
- Experience working as an Irrigation Technician, Landscape Technician, Arborist, Horticulturist or similar role
- Two (2) years of experience as a lead worker or working supervisor.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record
- Valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (class
B) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire - Flaggers Certificate
Parks Preferred
Certifications:
Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), ISA Certified Arborist, Pesticide Applicator License, Pesticide Qualified Supervisor Certificate, or Turf Management Certification, Landscape Technician / Horticulture Certification, and similar certification/trainings.
- Knowledge of parks and open-space maintenance practices, including turf care, irrigation systems, landscaping, horticulture, and tree management.
- Skill in planning, coordinating, and overseeing daily and seasonal parks operations.
- Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff while fostering a positive and productive team environment.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices, OSHA requirements, equipment operation standards, and safe chemical and pesticide handling.
- Ability to schedule work, assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of maintenance activities.
