Parks Technician - Athletics and Weekend Operations; Part-Time

Starting Rate: $20.23/hour

Part-time Athletics and Weekend Operations Staff perform a variety of entry-level athletic field maintenance activities including mowing operations, irrigation repairs, safety and cleanliness inspections, minor construction work, trash and vandalism and graffiti removal, weekend tournament and special event support, and other athletic facility related maintenance activities.

This position may also occasionally support other work groups within the Parks and Open Space Division including work in Parks Maintenance, Open Space and Trails, and/or Forestry and Horticulture.

Part-time staff may work up to 40+ hours per week and must be available a minimum of 16 hours per week.

• There are two primary shift groups:
• M-F 6:30am-5pm
• Th-Sun 6:30am-5pm OR Noon-10pm
• Flexible scheduling options may be accommodated based on work group needs.

Employees in this classification are limited to 1,560 hours per year with no termination date.

• Maintaining athletic fields including infield skin work, clay, field prep, and painting athletic surfaces.
• Supporting weekend tournaments and special events by preparing for and/or staffing weekend events.
• Turf grass mowing, trimming, fertilizing, aerating, seeding, topdressing, and weed control.
• Turf maintenance, playground maintenance, hardscape maintenance, and irrigation repairs.
• Collecting trash and removing vandalism and graffiti.
• Performing a variety of heavy laboring activities utilizing pickup trucks, trailers, tractors, riding and walk behind mowers, edgers, string trimmers, backpack blowers and various hand tools and other power maintenance equipment.
• Installing and maintaining concrete work, signage, fences, courts, benches, grills, tables and other park amenities.
• Performing snow removal activities either by hand, small equipment, or heavy equipment as assigned.

• Cleaning and organization of shop area.
• Arboriculture and horticulture assignments including planting and transplanting of plants, site preparation, installation, back filling, staking, pruning, watering, and mulching.
• Open space and trails maintenance including mowing and trimming, trash collection, fence installation and other related light construction activities.
• Park maintenance and other related assignments.
• Applying herbicides and pesticides in accordance with prescribed guidelines; maintaining usage records.
• Performing other appropriate duties as assigned.

• Safety checks of equipment and minor maintenance activities on vehicles and equipment.
• Following all safety protocols for working in traffic and congested areas.
• Working in ditches and confined spaces and all other work environments.

• Must be available to work a minimum of 16 hours per week.
• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree preferred.
• A combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Must be able to work weekends and evenings as assigned.

• Valid Colorado Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record required.
