of Job

ANS Boat Inspection Technician: A customer service based position that involves inspecting for invasive Zebra/Quagga Mussels, Milfoil or other plant species on boats and personal watercraft at an inspection point on the park. This is an important position for the protection of natural resources from non-native species that threaten wildlife, drinking water/irrigation and all water related outdoor recreation in the State of Colorado.

Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills. Specific duties may include: staffing the park ANS (aquatic nuisance species) inspection station, conducting physical boat inspections and boater interviews, providing information and assistance to the boating public (distributes brochures, promotes ANS education, educates about State Park regulations, etc.), cleaning and light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of ANS inspection areas.

Including maintenance of facilities and grounds, accurate counting and recording of all boat inspections, photo-copying and filing, may document and report visitor complaints, other duties as assigned. Park Maintenance Technician:
Responsible for all general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including: restrooms, showers, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc. Assures quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness, provides information and assistance to visitors, operates and performs routine maintenance on State owned vehicles and equipment, assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials and supplies, other duties as assigned.

Administrative Responsibilities: A customer service-based position that works out of the Paonia State Park shop. The position answers visitor's questions in person or over the phone. Position will sell park passes and camping permits. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills. Specific duties may include: assures quality customer service, provides information and assistance to visitors, handles revenues from sales in the Visitor Center, use of computer programs to sell passes and campsites, answering phones and drive up window, cleaning of Visitor Center, assisting park staff with projects, other duties as assigned.

Note:

Crawford and Paonia State Park are managed together in a complex. Each park has its own dedicated staff but there is potential to have to assist at the other park. This position is up to 40 hours per week and up to nine months in duration. School schedules may be accommodated. Housing may be available.

Minimum Qualifications , Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Basic requirements:
Must be at least 16 years of age, must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, must be willing to work outside during hot and inclement weather, must be able to climb in and out of boats repeatedly for ANS inspections, must be able to lift 50-100 pounds repeatedly during the course of a single workday, first aid and CPR certifications may be required, background check may be required.

Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle. To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who: have an assigned State fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.

Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays.
