Job Summary:

The Applications Lab Technician supports Applications Scientists and Project Managers with product re-costing, sensory evaluations, ingredient qualifications, powder testing, sample preparation, and related laboratory and documentation activities. This position manages a moderate to high volume of assignments while ensuring accurate, reliable, and timely technical data and results.

Training needed:
  • RFI policies, procedures, and applicable standard operating procedures.
  • Applications laboratory procedures, testing methods, documentation practices, and applicable software systems.
  • Equipment calibration and use, including laboratory scales and pH meters.
  • cGMP, food safety, quality, sanitation, laboratory safety, and other required company training applicable to the position.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Testing and Analysis:
    Perform sensory evaluations and powder testing for qualification samples, change-control samples, and new products. Support ingredient qualification activities through testing, document review, and report preparation.
  • Product and Technical Support:
    Perform product re-costing calculations as purchase orders are received. Assist Applications Scientists with laboratory activities, testing, documentation, product evaluation, and development work, and provide technical support to internal departments as needed.
  • Sample Management:
    Prepare, package, document, and coordinate samples and shipments as required.
  • Laboratory Operations:
    Maintain laboratory readiness by calibrating scales and pH meters, maintaining equipment and supplies, completing start-of-day and end-of-day routines, and keeping the laboratory clean, organized, and ready for testing and development activities.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
    Follow established SOPs and appropriate documentation practices when performing testing and evaluation activities. Accurately record and report technical data and results and promptly communicate deviations, equipment issues, or other concerns to management.
  • Organization and Productivity:
    Manage assignments and priorities to ensure testing, evaluation, and development activities are completed accurately and on schedule. Communicate delays or challenges to management.
  • Additional Duties:
    Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as assigned by the Project Manager, Applications Manager, or VP of Applications and Quality.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently with appropriate direction.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English.
  • Strong time and task management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software and ability to learn and use specialized software.
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred, particularly in GMP or cGMP environments.
Education and Experience:
  • Associate degree in a scientific field or related area required.
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred.
Food Safety and Quality Requirements:
  • Follow applicable cGMP, food‑safety, quality, sanitation, laboratory, and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow approved SOPs, test methods, documentation practices, and change‑control requirements applicable to assigned work.
