Job Summary

The Bruce

D. Benson Center for the Study of Western Civilization (the Benson Center) and the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder invite applications for a Visiting Researcher (Sabbatical Fellow) for the 2027–28 academic year. Scholars from the humanities and social sciences whose work engages the ideas, institutions, and debates that have shaped Western civilization and the American founding are invited to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct original research that engages with the Benson Center’s mission.
  • Participate in the various activities of the Center.
  • May teach undergraduate courses, depending on interest and availability.
  • Be regularly present and in‑person at the Benson Center to contribute to its intellectual life.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. earned or in progress with a scheduled dissertation defense.
  • Not employed by another institution during the appointment.
  • Expected to be in residence at the University of Colorado Boulder for the length of the appointment.
  • Appointment in the College of Arts & Sciences (without tenure).
Compensation and Benefits
  • Monthly salary between $6,000 and $10,000, depending on experience, with matching funds available if external funding is limited.
  • Competitive compensation package including relocation subsidy, dedicated budget, and administrative assistance.
  • Signing bonus and incentive pay may be available based on experience and funding.
  • Benefits for 50% time or greater appointments, including medical, dental, life insurance, tax‑deferred annuity, and optional savings plans (e.g., 403(b), 457, 401(k)). A separate ECO Pass for local transit is also provided.
