Lab Chemist II

The Lab Chemist II is responsible for conducting qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses and laboratory testing to support quality control, production, and compliance requirements. This position works hands-on with chemical substances, samples, analytical equipment, and testing methods while following all Health & Safety, operational, and compliance procedures.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform chemical analysis and testing of samples while following all Health & Safety, operational, and compliance standards.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses using established laboratory procedures.
  • Complete all required digital and physical documentation associated with laboratory analyses accurately and in a timely manner, including calibration logs, run logs, and testing records.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and operate various types of analytical laboratory equipment in accordance with established procedures and the chemical hygiene plan.
  • Follow laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and complete required annual SOP reviews and quizzes.
  • Properly manage chemical waste generated during laboratory testing and analysis.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory work environment.
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and communicate inventory needs.
  • Follow OSHA requirements and established laboratory safety procedures.
  • Train and mentor new hires as assigned.
  • Occasionally operate a forklift as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs.
Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of related laboratory experience.
  • Alternative combinations of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Hands-on experience working in a laboratory setting.
  • Experience with chemical testing and analysis.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and calibrating analytical laboratory equipment.
  • Experience working with chemicals and properly handling chemical waste.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Solid understanding of chemistry, math, and chemical testing.
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate laboratory documentation.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to train and mentor new employees as needed.

Preferred Training includes:

  • 24- or 40-hour OSHA training and annual updates preferred.
  • DOT training preferred.

Physical Requirements include:

  • Ability to perform medium physical work.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for approximately 4–6 hours during a typical shift.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from the ground to waist level.
  • Ability to frequently bend and climb.
  • Ability to climb up and down vertical ladders.
  • Ability to reach, squat, stoop, and kneel as required.
  • Ability to reach outward, overhead, and downward while exerting force as needed.
  • Good hand/eye coordination.
  • Depth perception and visual acuity necessary to safely perform laboratory duties.
  • Ability to distinguish colors as required for chemical testing and analysis.
  • Ability to safely work in a laboratory and chemical environment.

Equipment & Driving Requirements include:

  • Occasional operation of an automatic-transmission forklift.
  • Occasional driving may be required.
