The Port of Everett, located on Port Gardner Bay at the mouth of the Snohomish River, was formed by the citizens of Everett in 1918 to create economic opportunities and protect the waterfront for the community. The Port has a long history of providing marine-related services and appropriate public access to the waterfront. The Port strives to bring quality jobs, business, and tourism opportunities to its local and surrounding communities, and is committed to enhancing, restoring and preserving the overall environmental health of our waterfront through environmental remediation, pollution prevention and resiliency planning.
The Port of Everett operates three lines of business:
1) international shipping terminals;
2) marina facilities; and
3) real estate development. The Port operates eight shipping berths situated on approximately 125 acres of land, and specializes in handling high-value, conventional and over dimensional cargoes in support of the aerospace, military, construction, manufacturing, agriculture, energy and forest products industries.
The Port of Everett runs the largest public marina on the West Coast with more than 2,300 recreational boating slips and a 13-lane public boat launch facility. On the real estate side, the Port owns 3,800 acres of property, including Jetty Island, and works to return environmentally damaged property to productive use, restoring economic prosperity to the waterfront. The Port’s properties also provide numerous public access and recreational opportunities for area residents and visitors to enjoy, supporting a vibrant, livable and balanced waterfront that generates economic and recreational opportunities.
Through its operations, the Port supports nearly 40,000 jobs and contributes $433 million to state and local taxes.
Security protects Port of Everett properties and facilities by delivering professional, welcoming, and customer-focused service while consistently applying Port rules and regulations. The team serves as a visible point of contact for visitors, boaters, tenants, customers, and staff, helping people feel informed, supported, and safe throughout Port facilities. Security responds calmly and courteously to questions, concerns, and incidents; provides clear direction;
identifies hazards; supports safety guidelines; and safeguards secured and restricted areas while representing the Port in a positive and professional manner.
- Depending on duty station, duties may include, but are not limited to- identification checks, screening and directing in-bound deliveries, logging ship arrivals and departures, noting damage to facilities, spotting vessels at pier side, installing and removing vessel phones, controlling flood lighting, raising and lowering flags, and shutting off power or water in emergency situations, or blocking off unsafe areas in the absence of Maintenance or other Port personnel
- Maintain a working knowledge of marina policies, regulations, services, amenities, and event schedules to provide accurate and helpful information to customers and visitors
- Assist marina customers with questions, access, directions, and service needs while enforcing marina policies and regulations in a courteous, consistent, and professional manner
- Represent the Port to the public in a positive, approachable, and service-oriented manner
- Provide responsive, respectful, and helpful customer service to visitors, boaters, tenants, vendors, and staff by answering questions, handling requests, resolving concerns when appropriate, and connecting individuals with the correct Port resources
- Use clear, calm, and professional communication to de-escalate concerns, explain Port expectations, and create a welcoming experience for customers and guests
- Perform routine security checks of offices, property and parking lots
- Ensure that Port facilities are secured from trespass
- Document work activity and incidents clearly and concisely
- Assure a smooth transition and information exchange between security shifts
- Monitor Parking lots for safety, security and enforcement of parking regulations
- Respond to emergencies as appropriate, and direct vehicles and personnel to proper location(s)
- Keep Port management informed of all emergencies and other reportable incidents
- Provide general support to ensure facility safety, customer assistance, and the smooth operation of the Port, including evenings and weekends
- Complete nightly mail pick-ups, mail deliveries, and make bank deposits as assigned
- Attend trainings, drills, exercises and meetings that support security activities, and maintain required certifications of training
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards
