As an HVAC & Plumbing Installer Apprentice, you will work alongside licensed plumbers and experienced HVAC technicians to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and heating systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This entry-level position serves as a learning role and stepping stone toward becoming a licensed Journeyman, providing hands‑on training across both plumbing installation and HVAC systems, including boiler, hydronic, furnace, and ductwork work.
You’ll assist with site preparation, material staging, piping and ductwork installation, equipment setup, and system testing. The apprentice must demonstrate a willingness to learn, follow directions, work safely, and assist in a wide range of tasks from setup to system commissioning.

- Drain, waste, and vent systems
- Water supply and water distribution systems
- Storm drainage
- Gas piping systems
- Special piping, storage, and non-potable water systems
- Electric and gas boilers
- Air-to-water heat pumps
- Hydronic heating systems (radiant, snowmelt, baseboard, fan coils)
- Closed-loop heating/cooling systems
- Vent piping, gas piping, and condensate piping
- Controls and low-voltage wiring
- Furnaces and air handlers
- Heat pumps, AC, and rooftop units
- Split systems (ducted and ductless)
- Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) and Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV)
- Exhaust fans, make‑up air, and humidification systems
- Ductwork, fan coils, booster fans, and sensors
- Blueprint Reading & System Layout: Learn to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and system diagrams. Assist in laying out piping, ductwork, and equipment placement under the direction of licensed installers, and observe how pipe routing, fixture placement, and hydronic system design are determined.
- Material Handling & Procurement: Help prepare, organize, and stage tools and materials for job sites. Assist with material take-offs, verify delivery of parts, and learn inventory and supply tracking basics under supervision.
- System Installation: Support the installation, modification, and repair of plumbing, boiler, hydronic, furnace, and ductwork systems. Learn and assist with cutting, fitting, soldering, brazing, threading, pressing, gluing, and connecting pipe, and help position, level, and mount boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, furnaces, and duct runs. Help install fixtures, registers, grilles, vents, and related equipment.
- Controls & Low-Voltage Wiring: Assist with installation of low-voltage wiring for thermostats, sensors, and zone controls. Observe troubleshooting and setup of control systems, and begin learning control logic and wiring practices.
- Communication & Coordination: Communicate clearly and respectfully with lead installers, foremen, coworkers, and customers. Observe coordination with trades, contractors, and inspectors, and report daily progress and challenges to supervisors.
