Salary range compensation by hours worked is determined by various factors, including experience, seniority, agency budget, and the nature of the role. For union positions, salary is set in accordance with the applicable bargaining unit’s schedule and regulations.
Short‑Term StatusIf selected for a position that lasts less than 90 days, it will automatically revert to a short‑term role. The salary rate for a short‑term seasonal position will be discussed during the interview phase.
Responsibilities- Assist skilled tradesmen and craftsmen such as carpenters, plumbers, and masons with manual labor tasks.
- Install drainage, sewer, or water pipelines: position, join, and seal pipe sections and culverts; erect and remove shoring and bracing for trenches and excavations.
- Dig trenches and excavations, refill them, and spread and level materials such as dirt or gravel using pick and shovel.
- Set and repair curbing; patch broken or eroded pavement by breaking surface, mixing, and applying paving materials such as mortar, concrete, and cement with small tools.
- Install, repair, and maintain regulatory, historic, and informational signs—including digging holes and installing supports using hand or handheld power tools.
- Plant, transplant, prune, trim, fertilize trees, flowers, and shrubs; seed lawns and gardens; spray against insects and plant diseases; and perform related tasks such as cutting grass, raking leaves, and watering plants.
- Load and unload trucks, use dollies, unpackage supplies, store in stockrooms or warehouses, and conduct periodic inventory.
- Operate handheld power tools, tapping machines, and rodding machines.
- Operate motor vehicles—including light vehicles, trucks—to support assigned unit activities.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Ability to work outside in inclement weather, odd hours, with expectations for overtime and holidays.
Applicants must have at least six months of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience in manual labor related to general construction or maintenance work.
