NATURE OF WORK:

Under direct supervision, performs manual and semi-skilled tasks in the construction and/or maintenance of roadways, walkways, storm drains and public right of way; may assist with the routine maintenance of equipment, tools and machinery. Operates various equipment, including heavy equipment and performs a variety of maintenance functions for the department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains and repairs the Town’s streets, bridges, and sewer and water systems; patches asphalt, repairs street shoulders, and performs street sweeping.
  • Cleans, unplugs sewers, cleans debris from drain gates; cleans drainage channels and irrigation ditches; performs culvert maintenance and drainage;installs, services and repairs of water distribution service and main lines; blue stakes water lines.
  • Operates heavy equipment including backhoes, front end loaders, graders, bulldozers, dump tucks, excavators, water trucks, bobcats, skid steers, snowplows, and forklifts; drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand and other construction materials.
  • Sweeps parking lots and streets ensures roads and parking lots are accessible to residents and the public;ensures that traffic, public and crew members are safe and are following safety regulations and procedures.
  • Sands, plows, and removes snow from parking lots, and roadways; operates snowplow and various snow removal equipment.
  • Assists in providing traffic control in and around construction areas; assists in and may direct traffic at work sites; performs flagging and other related safety functions.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains road signs
  • Operates a variety of hand and power equipment to perform job duties.
  • Cleans and repairs the sewer system; adjusts the height of manholes.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor. Picks up and removes trash as assigned;

    Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections and maintenance activity.
  • May perform general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment. Acts as a liaison, when necessary between Mountain Village and its residents and guests, subcontractors, vendors, and merchants, giving direction and assistance as needed
  • Promotes and observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites as necessary; may attend safety committee meetings, actively participates in and may conduct tailgate trainings.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of the team.

    Actively works to progress the Town’s goal of zero waste and carbon neutrality by minimizing unnecessary consumption (of energy, water, paper, plastic, ink, etc.), seeking environmentally preferred products (e.g., reusable, recycled content, non-fossil fuel), and supporting environmental initiatives through participation, promotion, and accurate storytelling.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or G.E.D AND two years equipment in street and storm sewer maintenance, operating light and heavy equipment and various hand and power tools; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Licenses/Certification(s):
  • A valid Driver’s License is required.
  • Flagger certification is required within one year of hire date.
  • CDL preferred.
