Fleet Mechanic
The City of Northglenn is hiring for Fleet Mechanic I and Fleet Mechanic II positions. The hiring ranges are $25.22 - $29.00 per hour for Fleet Mechanic I and $26.58 - $31.90 per hour for Fleet Mechanic II.
The Fleet Mechanic I performs skilled entry-level inspection, preventative maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment. This position requires basic mechanical knowledge, problem-solving ability, and basic skills using available materials and tools. Work is performed under general supervision with significant independent judgment, and results are reviewed through completed work performance.
The Fleet Mechanic II is a skilled and motivated member of the City's Fleet Division, responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repair of the City's gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles, heavy equipment, and small motors to ensure safe and reliable fleet operations. This position involves performing journeyman-level mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic repairs on equipment while complying with all City policies and safety regulations.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who works effectively with minimal supervision, possesses strong problem-solving and fabrication skills, and demonstrates solid technical knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment repair.

For Fleet Mechanic I, duties include diagnosing basic mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues on gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment under supervision, performing minor and major repair work on light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, repairing and replacement of components such as brakes, steering parts, batteries, belts, hoses, and suspension components under supervision with training, changing tires on small and large equipment with guidance as needed, performing routine preventative maintenance services such as oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, and lubrication with training, learning and assisting with vehicle emission testing and related documentation, learning and assisting with badging, outfitting, and setup of new vehicles and equipment, performing basic vehicle and equipment inspections to identify visible mechanical deficiencies and reports findings to lead mechanics or supervisors, learning and assisting with fabrication, modification, and repair of parts using shop tools and available materials, working as part of a team and following instructions while developing independent work skills, maintaining accurate records of maintenance and repair activities on work orders under supervision, learning to read and interpret maintenance manuals, diagrams, and technical instructions, following all City safety rules, environmental regulations, and workplace policies at all times, communicating effectively with supervisors and team members regarding work progress, equipment condition, and safety concerns, and performing additional entry-level mechanical and shop support duties as assigned.
For Fleet Mechanic II, duties include diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic problems on gasoline and diesel-powered engines, vehicles, and equipment, performing minor and major repair work on light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, repairing and rebuilding components such as transmissions, engines, braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, and hydraulic systems, independently changing tires for small and large equipment, performing routine and preventative maintenance on gasoline engines, diesel engines, and small motors to ensure safe and reliable operation, performing emission testing on vehicles, independently badge and outfit new vehicles and equipment, conducting thorough inspections to identify mechanical deficiencies and determine appropriate repair procedures, utilizing journeyman-level skills to fabricate, modify, and repair parts using available materials, tools, and supplies, working independently with minimal supervision and managing multiple repair tasks efficiently, maintaining accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, and work performed on work orders, reading and understanding…
