The Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Light & Heavy Duty inspects, diagnoses, and repairs commercial heavy-duty trucks and tracked or wheeled construction machinery. They perform complex troubleshooting on hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems to maximize fleet uptime and maintain strict safety standards inside the workshop.

In addition to heavy-duty trucks and construction equipment, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic also performs routine maintenance and repair on the company’s light-duty truck fleet, including pickups and vans - covering oil changes, brake service, tire and battery replacement, fluid checks, and general diagnostic work. This role requires the versatility to move between quick-turn light-duty fleet upkeep and complex heavy-duty and construction equipment repair as daily priorities demand.

• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and safety inspections on trucks and construction equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic system issues and complete necessary repairs.
• Use diagnostic software, laptops, and testing equipment to troubleshoot diesel engines, CAN-bus electrical systems, and high-pressure hydraulic systems.
• Repair and rebuild engines, transmissions, differentials, final drives, and other major drivetrain components.
• Repair steering, suspension, air brake, and undercarriage systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
• Perform fleet maintenance services, including fluid changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and oil-analysis sampling.
• Cut, weld, fabricate, and modify buckets, attachments, and structural components when repairs are required.
• Prepare repair estimates, parts requirements, and work quotes as requested.
• Accurately document labor hours, repairs performed, parts used, inspection results, and warranty information in the company shop system.
• Maintain personal and company tools, shop equipment, and work areas in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
• Maintain tooling and equipment in accordance with applicable company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and equipment operating practices.
• Perform other related maintenance and repair duties as assigned.

• Experience:
  
  4–7 years of hands-on experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, or similar machinery preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, CAN-bus networks, powertrains, brakes, steering, suspension, and related components.
• Well-rounded knowledge of commercial trucks and heavy construction equipment.
• Ability to diagnose problems efficiently and complete repairs with limited supervision.
• Must possess a comprehensive set of personal mechanic hand tools appropriate for heavy truck and construction equipment repair.
• ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certifications or manufacturer training from CAT, Komatsu, Cummins, John Deere, or similar manufacturers is highly preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.
• CDL Class A or B is strongly preferred.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, diagnostic software, and electronic data entry.
• Strong reading, writing, mathematical, reasoning, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to understand and follow technical manuals, schematics, service information, and safety procedures.
