Job Summary

Are you an HVAC Professional looking for an exciting careerfeaturing hands-on work? Our Facilities Management (FM) team at CUBoulder encourages applications for a HVAC Technician! This workunit is responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance,modification and operation of Campus’s heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and building automation systems (BAS) in academic buildings. Most of the Campus’s building HVAC systemsor components are controlled and monitored by the BAS.

The BAS is acomputerized network of DDC that monitors and operates the HVACsystems. This position provides analysis, repair, maintenance and operational management of the HVAC and BAS systems within the University's academic buildings. This position is not required toupsell services or equipment. What Your

Key Responsibilities Will Be HVAC System and ULTF Inventory Maintenance and Monitoring Program Analysis and Repair
  • Performs journey level analysis and repair of HVAC Systems and associated equipment. This includes air handling units, VAVsystems, VAV with reheats, dual duct systems, constant volume withreheats, labs with variable fume hood control, constant and variable flow heating and chilled water systems, Delta P valves,steam systems, chillers, flat plate cooling, cooling towers,boilers (steam and hot water), and process cooling water systems.
  • Perform new installations, maintenance and troubleshooting forthe ULTF monitoring program on campus and perform bi-annual PM onthe ULTF inventory. This includes condenser cleaning, battery replacement, filter replacement and troubleshooting door issues forthe ULTF inventory. Assist during emergencies to locate dry ice andback up freezer options for customers. Ensure ULTF monitoringsystem is communicating without deficiencies, performstroubleshooting when required. Verify contact information with research community, regularly communicate with lab Principal Investigator (PI) to update information on the Master Customer Contact internal document and the Thermo Scientific website.

    Regularly review analytics regarding monitoring system performance to identify patterns and determine the issue root cause.

    Consistently keep customers updated and informed of potential issues.
HVAC System Calibration and Commissioning
  • Responsible to commission, calibrate, and test all temperaturecontrol components within a building's temperature control systemto maintain optimal system performance and energy savings. This is performed on a defined cycle within existing buildings. Mayfunction as the lead for Facilities Management when commissioning and calibrating new work installed by a contractor.
Building Automation Systems/Direct Digital Controls
  • Responsible to install, troubleshoot and repair all fielddevices of the direct digital control (DDC) systems within abuilding including microprocessor based controllers, wireless controllers, signal conditioners, relays, sensors, thermostats andall related wiring. Responsible to change numeric values,understand basic system programming code and alarm criteria and to maintain a clear understanding of the BAS within a building.
Refrigeration/Chiller Maintenance and Operation
  • Responsible for the maintenance, repair and operation ofchillers, split systems, cold rooms, computer room air conditionersand other related components and systems. Understand alloperational and control sequences, follow trouble shootingsequences, and read related drawings and specifications.
