ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

The following statements of essential functions and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on building assignment and other factors determined with supervisor and/or building principal.

The Head Robotics Coach leads students, with the support of expert volunteer mentors from the robotics field, in developing the skills and knowledge to design and build a successful robot, while fostering a spirit of team building and professionalism throughout the process.

• Serve as the liaison between team members, volunteer mentors, and parents
• Clearly communicate expectations, updates and opportunities to all constituencies
• Recruiting students
• Schedule and coordinate meets and competitions, including travel arrangements and trip logistics
• Perform research into the design, operation and performance of the robot
• Supervise and guide students in building, configuring, and testing the robot to ensure successful performance
• Follow and enforce all safety rules and guidelines of the FIRST Robotics program

• Supervise students to ensure that they are safe, productive, and engaged
• Work with students to help them seek innovative solutions to challenges
• Coordinate multiple small groups of students and mentors who are working on a varying set of tasks at the same time; ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, be productive and take on leadership roles
• Create team spirit and build cohesion through team building and bonding opportunities
• Keep the team organized by clearly communicating goals/objectives and project status with students and volunteers
• Nurture a sense of ownership among team members for their robot, enrichment and values
• Be a positive role model for students and lead by example; display kindness, patience, and professionalism

• Manage volunteer recruitment, supervision, training, scheduling, etc.
• Manage and collaborate with the volunteer professional mentors to best utilize their talents to optimize student learning/growth and achieving team goals

• Keep organized track of team income and expenses; efficiently manage team budget in coordination with the Activity Department.

• Send out regularly scheduled clear and concise parent/guardian communications; keep parents/guardians informed and engaged
• Engage and encourage parents/guardians to get involved in a variety of ways: provide food during build season, driving to competitions and events, volunteer, etc.
• Plan and coordinate in-person events, meetings, celebrations, etc.

2 hours a day/90 day season
