HEAD ATHLETIC COACH
Job Summary: The head coach is responsible for planning, directing and leading an education‑based athletic program that seeks to develop athletes of integrity.
QUALIFICATIONS- Must meet the head coaching requirements of the Telluride School District and the coaching requirements set forth by CHSAA.
- Experience coaching in an Education‑Based athletic program.
- Certified teacher preferred.
- Playing and/or coaching experience preferred.
Reports to: Middle/High School Athletic Director
JOB GOALSTo accept the responsibility of the program and work with the students/athletes in the sport assigned and to provide life lessons that will positively impact the physical, social and emotional well‑being of all who are involved.

Duties and Responsibilities- Accept and implement an educational based athletic approach to Middle/High School athletics.
- Follow the rules and regulations of the school, the conference and the Colorado High School Activities Association.
- Complete all CHSAA Coaching requirements before the start of the first competition (HS only; MS must have CPR/First aid/AED certification).
- Maintain a membership in the appropriate coaches association and participate so that our school has representation.
- Attend clinics, seminars, online classes and in‑service programs to improve coaching skills and stay current with new trends in coaching, training, conditioning and safety procedures.
- Coaches are expected to attend school and conference meetings, and are encouraged to attend state coaches meetings.
- Give input about and then carry out the interscholastic schedule as drawn up by the Athletics Director.
- Organize, schedule and supervise practice sessions.
- Supervise the use of equipment in the sport.
- Assist the athletic assistant with the development of a written annual inventory and make recommendations for purchases to the Athletics Director.
- Assist the athletic assistant with the distribution and collection of equipment and supplies.
- Regularly inspect equipment and facilities to ensure the safety of each student athlete.
- Report scores and disseminate team information for publicity.
- Participate in pre‑season and post‑season meetings with the Athletics Director. The post‑season meeting serves as an evaluation conference.
- Delegate responsibility to the assistant coaches as appropriate.
- Develop continuity between the community and school programs.
- Provide leadership in the program for all levels (9th, 10th, JV and Varsity) of the sport.
- Allow only athletes cleared by the Athletic department to participate.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of the program at all times (locker rooms, practices, events, bus rides, etc.). Secure all doors, windows, locks and check lights before leaving the building.
- Ensure the team reflects proper attitude and conduct at home or away.
- Establish and use a system of communication with athletes and parents that includes explanation of program policies, awards, procedures, goals and schedules.
- Manage end‑of‑season awards programs.
- Represent the school professionally in demeanor, language, and conduct (based on standards established by the Athletics Director).
- Develop and maintain current knowledge of the activity being coached.
- Be responsible for school‑issued keys and do not give them to anyone. If lost, report immediately to the Athletic Department.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.
Performance of the job will be evaluated annually at the end of the season.
