Position: Track/ Field Assistant Coach- High School Coed
Location: Telluride

Job Summary

The head coach is responsible for planning, directing, and leading an education-based athletic program that seeks to develop athletes of integrity.

Qualifications
  • Must meet the head coaching requirements of the Telluride School District and the coaching requirements set forth by CHSAA.
  • Experience coaching in an education-based athletic program.
  • Certified teacher preferred.
  • Playing and/or coaching experience preferred.

    Duties and Responsibilities
  • Accept and implement an educational-based athletic approach to Middle/High School athletics.
  • Follow the rules and regulations of the school, the conference, and the Colorado High School Activities Association.
  • Complete all CHSAA coaching requirements before the start of the first competition (HS only; MS must have CPR/First aid/AED certification).
  • Maintain membership in the appropriate coaches association and participate so that the school has representation.
  • Attend clinics, seminars, online classes, and in‑service programs to improve coaching skills and stay current with new trends in coaching, training, conditioning, and safety procedures.
  • Attend school and conference meetings, and be encouraged to attend state coaches meetings.
  • Give input about and then carry out the interscholastic schedule as drawn up by the Athletics Director.
  • Organize, schedule, and supervise practice sessions.
  • Supervise the use of equipment in your sport.
  • Assist the athletic assistant with the development of a written annual inventory and make recommendations for purchases to the Athletics Director.
  • Assist the athletic assistant with the distribution and collection of equipment and supplies.
  • Regularly inspect equipment and facilities to ensure the safety of each student athlete.
  • Report scores and disseminate team information for publicity.
  • Participate in pre‑season and post‑season meetings with the Athletics Director. The post‑season meeting will serve as an evaluation conference.
  • Delegate responsibility to assistant coaches as appropriate.
  • Work to develop continuity between the community and school programs.
  • Provide leadership in the program for all levels (9th, 10th, JV, and Varsity) of the sport.
  • Only allow athletes cleared by the Athletic department to participate.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of the program at all times (locker rooms, practices, events, bus rides, etc.). Supervise any and all space used by athletes while they are present. Secure all doors, windows, locks, and check lights before leaving the building.
  • Ensure that the team, at all times, will reflect proper attitude and conduct at home or away.
  • Establish and use a system of communication to athletes and parents that will include explanation of program policies, awards, procedures, goals, and schedules.
  • Handle end‑of‑season award programs.
  • Represent the school in a professional manner in demeanor, language, and conduct (based on standards established by the Athletics Director).
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge of the activity being coached.
  • Be responsible for school‑issued keys and not give them to anyone. If lost, report immediately to the Athletic Department.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.
  • Evaluation

    Performance of the job will be evaluated annually at the end of the season.
