Salary: $4,080 per season
The BHS Assistant Volleyball Coach supports the head coach in developing a high‑quality volleyball program that promotes excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship. The coach assists each student in achieving higher skill levels, appreciation for teamwork, and increased confidence. Responsibilities include organizing, coordinating, and promoting instruction centered on fundamentals, rules, strategies, and physical training in a safe environment. The assistant coach operates practice times after academic classes and supervises the team at school activities.
Bayfield School District is located in the mountains of Southwest Colorado, near Purgatory Resort, Wolf Creek Ski Area, and historic Durango. - Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check.
- Complete and submit BSD online application.
- Program Support – Maintain an active, effective sports program, promote sportsmanship, and develop practices and schedules for individual and team growth.
- Assess strengths and determine athletic levels; supervise athletes during practices, activities, and competitions.
- Participate in games, pep assemblies, banquets, and award nights.
- Assist in cleaning, repairing, inventorying, storing, and replacing equipment.
- Student Management – Implement, communicate, manage, and enforce the BHS Athletic Agreement; handle injury procedures; conduct parent meetings and conferences.
- Policy, Reports, and Law – Apply federal and state law, CDE regulations, local board policy, and league guidelines; practice nondiscriminatory procedures.
- Budget Management – Administer athletic budgets, ensure cost effectiveness, follow purchase orders, and supervise fundraising for travel, camps, uniforms, and supplies.
- Community Relations – Represent the team, promote BHS athletics through media and community outreach, and engage parents.
- First Aid / CPR completion.
- Concussion Course completion.
- Work effectively with diverse groups.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding athletes and staff.
- Establish cooperative relationships with athletes and staff.
- Report work orally and in writing to supervisors.
- Believe in inclusion for all athletes, including those on IEPs and ESL learners.
- Dedication to high standards; personalize instruction for all athletes.
Per Bayfield School District extracurricular stipend schedule based on education and years of experience.
Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsMust work outdoors during student activities. Requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, and occasional lifting up to 75 lbs. Vision and hearing requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus. Must drive vehicles and district equipment. Noise level usually moderate but can be loud.
Work EnvironmentIndoor and outdoor environments; requires comfortable functioning in both. Must be able to operate district vehicles and equipment.
