Position: Assistant Track Coach (High School)
Location: Florence

Reports to

Head Track Coach and Athletic Director, with overall evaluation provided in collaboration with the High School Principal.

Job Goal

To assist the Head Track Coach in instructing student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical conditioning necessary to achieve individual and team success. The Assistant Coach will promote sportsmanship, character development, self-discipline, and academic achievement while maintaining a safe and positive athletic environment.

Qualifications
  • Previous successful coaching experience in track and field preferred.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental skills, techniques, and training principles specific to track and field events.
  • Ability to organize, supervise, and motivate student-athletes in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Serves as an appropriate role model for student-athletes through professional conduct and ethical behavior.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Successful completion of all required background screenings.
General Responsibilities
  • Support and uphold the philosophy, policies, and regulations of the District, league, and state athletic association.
  • Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive public representation of the school and athletic program.
  • Recognize that athletic programs significantly impact the school's image within the community and maintain professionalism at all times.
  • Exercise sound judgment and common sense in situations not specifically addressed in this job description.
  • Understand the extended time commitment and physical demands associated with coaching responsibilities.
Program Support Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, meets, and conditioning programs.
  • Provide technical instruction in assigned track and field events (e.g., sprints, distance, jumps, throws, relays).
  • Help implement training programs that promote skill development, strength, conditioning, and injury prevention.
  • Attend all practices, meets, team events, and required meetings.
  • Supervise student-athletes at all times during practices, competitions, and travel.
Student Development
  • Promote academic success and monitor student-athlete eligibility and conduct.
  • Serve as a mentor to student-athletes, modeling trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  • Communicate team expectations, training rules, and conduct standards clearly to athletes and parents.
  • Assist with enforcement of team rules and disciplinary procedures in accordance with district policies.
  • Respond appropriately to injuries and emergencies, ensuring proper documentation and reporting procedures are followed.
Administrative & Operational Support
  • Assist with meet preparation, facility setup, and adherence to scheduled facility usage times.
  • Support compliance with eligibility requirements, physical examinations, and parental consent documentation.
  • Help maintain accurate records, statistics, and required reports.
  • Assist in the care, inventory, issuance, storage, and maintenance of equipment and uniforms.
  • Ensure locker rooms, storage areas, and facilities are secure and properly maintained after use.
Communication & Public Relations
  • Maintain positive communication with athletes, parents, school staff, and administration.
  • Support preseason meetings and team communications.
  • Promote the track and field program within the school and community.
  • Represent the school and district in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
Finance And Equipment
  • Assist the Head Coach in operating within the approved athletic budget.
  • Promote respect and proper care of school property and athletic equipment.
  • Report equipment needs or concerns to the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
