JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT ATHLETIC COACH

0-2 YEARS $3,005
3-5 YEARS $3,606
6-10 YEARS $4,207
11+ YEARS $4,808
maximum of five carry over years

Qualifications
  • Must meet the assistant coaching requirements of Telluride School District and the coaching requirements set forth by CHSAA.
  • Previous coaching experience in assigned sport is desirable.
  • Has knowledge and background in the assigned sport.
  • Reports To

    The Head Coach in conjunction with the Athletics Director.

    Athletes and team assigned to him/her and assumes supervisory control over all athletes in the program when such control is needed.

    Job Goal
  • To carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach.
  • To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
  • Duties and Responsibilities
  • Has a thorough knowledge of policies of the Telluride Middle/High School Athletics Department and is responsible for its implementation.
  • Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
  • Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports programs.
  • Carries out responsibilities as designated by the head coach.
  • Provides assistance and guidance to, and safeguards for, each participant (by his/her presence at all practices, games and while traveling).
  • Maintains the framework and philosophy outlined by the head coach.
  • Is accountable to the head coach for all equipment and assists the head coach with inventorying, issuing and storing of equipment.
  • Recommends to the head coach items for the next year in his/her area of the program.
  • Monitors locker room and authorizes who may enter before and after practice/game.
  • Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
  • Examines locker rooms before and after games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility. Works with the head coach to request any needed improvements to facility.
  • Secures all doors, windows and locks and checks lights before leaving the building.
  • Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
  • Are responsible for school issued keys and will not give them to anyone. If lost, must report immediately to the Athletic Department.
  • Program Responsibilities
  • Assists the head coach in carrying out his/her responsibilities.
  • Instructs team members as to changes in the rules and teaches fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the head coach.
  • Maintains a record of team statistics.
  • Works within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach of that sport.
  • Attends all staff meetings and carries out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
  • Arrives early enough before practices, contests and meetings to adequately prepare and remains long enough to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
  • Helps in planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs.
  • Avoids criticizing, admonishing, or arguing with the head coach or any staff member within ears or eyes of players or parents.
  • Strives to improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the head coach.
  • Performs such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and may be requested by the head coach.
  • Evaluation

    Performance of the job will be evaluated annually at the end of season.
