Paid Training

Depending on your qualifications, you will receive a 6‑to‑8‑week paid training program. The training is fast‑paced and requires full attendance to ensure you’re fully prepared to succeed.

Hiring Range
  • Start Pay: $30.75 per hour – $31.83 after training is successfully completed (the two figures may appear as separate items based on pay rate after training)
  • FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
  • Full‑time – Year Round

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform thorough federally mandated pre‑ and post‑trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
  • Practice safe defensive driving techniques, staying alert to speed and external conditions.
  • Assist passengers, including those with disabilities, and comply with ADA standards.
  • Share route and schedule information to help riders reach their destinations.
  • Operate transit equipment, such as fare boxes, dispatch systems, and security cameras.
  • Communicate professionally with dispatch and passengers, addressing policy questions.
  • Check employee communication channels for updates on policies and procedures.
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork, including accident and incident reports.
  • Observe safety and security procedures, report potential hazards, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Serve the community by demonstrating Core Transit’s mission and values.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CDL Permit or CDL Class B with passenger endorsement.
Special Requirements
  • Obtain a CDL permit and then class B CDL license with passenger endorsement within 30 days of hire.
  • Meet all physical requirements outlined in Section 391.41 of the CDL Physical Standards, including passing a DOT physical.
  • Comply with all federal regulations and company policies regarding drug and alcohol testing, including 49 CFR Part 655, 49 CFR Part 40, and the Drug‑Free Workplace Act of 1988.
Comprehensive Pre‑Employment Process
  • Pass a detailed background check.
  • Complete a Department of Transportation drug and alcohol test.
  • Undergo a CDL medical exam.
  • Provide references to verify qualifications and experience.
Location & Commitments
  • Work hours vary:
    Monday‑Sunday, 23 hours a day, 8/10‑hour shifts.
  • Flexible work from any location as needed.
  • Work holidays and weekends as required.
Physical Demands
  • Mobility
    :
    Sitting for extended periods, standing, walking, and climbing on and off buses.
  • Coordination
    :
    Use of arms, hands, legs, and feet to safely operate the vehicle.
  • Strength
    :
    Lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Endurance
    :
    Maintain focus and alertness during long, challenging shifts.
  • Vision & Hearing
    :
    Communicate effectively and respond to emergency situations.
