JOB SUMMARY

The Haul Truck Driver is a critical member of the quarry production team, responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of raw materials (primarily rock and aggregate) from the extraction face to the processing plant. This role involves operating heavy off‑road machinery, typically 60 to 70‑ton haul trucks—within the rugged environment of a quarry. Beyond driving, the individual is responsible for the upkeep of their equipment and assisting in general quarry maintenance to ensure a steady ‘rhythm’ of production.

The ideal candidate is safety‑conscious, dependable, and capable of working in an environment that requires high levels of focus and adherence to MSHA regulations.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safely operate off‑highway haul trucks to transport shot rock or overburden from the pit to the crusher or designated stockpile areas.
  • Expertly position the truck under loaders for filling and back into tight tipping areas or hoppers for unloading.
  • Support loader production by breaking down surge piles and maintaining product piles as required by the site supervisor.
  • Operate secondary equipment as needed, such as pit/yard loaders or street sweepers (pickup brooms) to maintain site cleanliness.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre‑shift and post‑shift safety inspections on haul trucks and related mobile equipment.
  • Strictly follow all Martin Marietta safety guidelines and MSHA regulations to ensure a zero‑incident work environment.
  • Identify and immediately report any mechanical malfunctions, structural defects, or site hazards (e.g., berm issues, unstable highwalls) to the supervisor.
  • Perform minor maintenance and basic repairs, such as checking and topping off fluids, greasing components, and cleaning filters.
  • Maintain good housekeeping by keeping the truck cab and exterior clean and free of debris.
  • Aid the maintenance crew with larger plant repairs or quarry‑wide projects during downtime or scheduled maintenance periods.
  • Coordinate with loader operators and plant personnel via two‑way radio to ensure efficient cycle times and material flow.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of loads hauled, engine hours, and inspection results.
