Job Description Summary

The Airport Fleet & Maintenance Manager plans, organizes, directs, and manages airport maintenance and fleet programs and personnel in the administration and operation of airport facilities, fleet equipment, fueling facilities, and grounds. Responsibilities include maintenance and repair of a fleet of light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles and all airport‑owned buildings.

Schedule

This is a full‑time position operating on a four‑day work week. The role requires on‑site work and physical ability to work in extreme temperatures and variable weather conditions.

Compensation

Hiring Range: $100,000 – $110,000 USD annually. Total base pay range: $68,922 – $125,176. Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

Essential Duties
  • Manage the Airport Fleet and Airport Maintenance divisions and coordinate with staff to ensure short‑term and long‑term project planning is scheduled properly and target goals are met.
  • Conduct bi‑weekly meetings with all airport fleet and maintenance staff to ensure continuity between the two divisions.
  • Provide training on airport equipment for new and recurring employees and safety procedures for all employees.
  • Manage the Airport Fleet Capital Purchasing Program and partner with other airport departments and the Colorado Department of Transportation (Aviation Division) for the sale and acquisition of airport equipment.
  • Write specifications for the purchasing process for specialized and standard airport equipment and vehicles.
  • Coordinate with other county departments to ensure procurement and asset inventory policies and procedures are followed.
  • Manage emergency and non‑emergency building and fleet needs on a 24‑hour basis.
  • Assist with compliance of FAA rules and regulations per the Airport Part 139 Certification.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain tool inventories, evaluate vehicles for transfer or replacement, inspect new units, assist with diagnosis, repair, and testing of vehicles, and supervise all building and equipment maintenance.
  • Represent the airport on certain contracted projects, ensuring quality control, quality assurance, adherence to specifications, and contractor compliance with FAA rules and regulations.
  • Respond to aircraft emergencies as an Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) crew member to protect life and property of airport users. Maintain ARFF training to FAA standards; training to become ARFF certified will be provided by the airport.
  • Participate in mandatory snow‑removal operations with 12‑hour shifts until the end of the storm event, operating multiple types of heavy snow‑removal equipment.
  • Participate in mandatory on‑call rotation, take calls, and return to the airport if necessary. Direct staff to return to the airport for airfield continuity and provide continuous support to on‑call airfield and operations personnel during emergencies or other situations as required.
  • Supervise staff in the area of responsibility. Administer and make recommendations for routine personnel matters, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, granting leave, appraisals, and corrective action. Conduct performance evaluations and communicate short‑ and long‑term goals and objectives. Submit personnel records and reports as required by the county. Assist and advise subordinates as necessary, resolve problems as non‑routine situations arise, and ensure adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards.

    Communicate changes in policy and procedures to direct reports and implement them as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of work‑related experience.
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
  • Preferred qualifications:

    Specialized training or bachelor’s degree in a related field;
    American Association of Airport Executives Certified Member; five or more years of work‑related experience; experience with Workday Database; team leadership and/or management skills; strong written and verbal communication; firearm safety knowledge preferred but not required.
