JOB DESCRIPTION OBJECTIVEReporting to the Operations Manager, the CDL Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation and delivery of products to customers, vendors, and company facilities. The CDL Driver ensures compliance with all Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), company safety policies, and applicable state and federal regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS Education- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A required
- Three (3) to five (5) years of commercial driving experience, preferably within the food distribution, produce, agriculture, or manufacturing industry
- Current Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Medical Card) or ability to obtain and maintain
- Ability to operate manual transmission (stick shift) vehicles
- Ability to operate vehicles equipped with air brakes
- Clean driving record and ability to meet company insurability requirements
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations, hours-of-service requirements, and vehicle inspection requirements
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional evenings, weekends, and overnight travel as business needs require
- Safely load, transport, and deliver products to customers and company locations in accordance with delivery schedules.
- Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and en-route vehicle inspections to ensure safe operating condition.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, mileage records, and other required DOT documentation.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent damage and ensure safe transportation.
- Comply with all DOT, FMCSA, state, and company transportation regulations and policies.
- Report accidents, vehicle defects, violations, or delays promptly to management.
- Maintain cleanliness and professional appearance of assigned vehicles.
- Coordinate with warehouse personnel regarding loading, unloading, and delivery schedules.
- Operate equipment safely, including pallet jacks, lift gates, and other material handling equipment as required.
- Provide professional and courteous service to customers, vendors, and coworkers.
- Participate in safety training and meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Warehouse Supervisor, Operations Manager, or Regional Operations leadership.
As a safety-sensitive position, the CDL Driver is subject to all applicable Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, including but not limited to:
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
- DOT random drug and alcohol testing
- Return-to-duty and follow-up testing, when applicable*
- Commercial Driver's License Clearinghouse requirements
- DOT physical examinations and medical certification requirements
Employees must maintain eligibility to operate commercial motor vehicles under all applicable federal, state, and company requirements as a condition of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to squat, bend, kneel, climb, and twist as necessary
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods, frequently up to eight (8) hours or more per day
- Ability to enter and exit commercial vehicles multiple times per shift
- Ability to reach overhead and maintain full range of motion
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperatures
- Ability to safely perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
