Offit Kurman, an AmLaw 200 law firm, is seeking an Accounting Specialist with cash applications experience to join our Finance & Accounting team based in our Columbia, MD office. This role will support daily accounting operations, including cash receipt postings, trust accounting, deposits, reconciliations, and responding to Finance & Accounting inquiries across the Firm.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and a strong communicator who is comfortable working independently after training while asking questions when needed. Prior law firm experience is a plus but not required. This position will work West Coast support hours and will become hybrid following the required training and introductory period.
Responsibilities:- Post daily cash receipts and assist with trust cash receipt postings.
- Process and support check deposits across multiple Firm accounts.
- Monitor and respond to inquiries through the Finance & Accounting inbox.
- Assist with monthly billing cycles, account reconciliations, and discrepancy resolution.
- Apply client payments accurately and support accounts receivable and trust accounting functions.
- Maintain accurate financial records and data within the Firm’s accounting systems.
- Research and resolve discrepancies affecting accounting, billing, or trust records.
- Provide timely and professional support to attorneys, clients, vendors, and internal business professionals.
- Cross-train across accounting functions to provide backup support to the team.
- Experience with cash applications, cash receipts, or related accounting functions.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to ask questions and seek clarification when needed.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Experience with accounting, ERP, or client-management systems;
Aderant experience is a plus. - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Law firm or professional services experience is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to work a schedule aligned with West Coast business hours.
