State ChemistThe State Chemist program has been in continuous operation since 1833. It regulates the sale and distribution of pesticides, animal feeds, pet foods, fertilizers, compost, soil conditioners and agricultural liming materials in order to enhance and promote agricultural production; protect consumers, animals and the environment from unsafe products; ensure the sale of effective products and provide the regulated industry with a competitive marketplace.
Regulation is accomplished by product registration, laboratory analyses, inspection, voluntary compliance and enforcement actions such as stop sale orders. In addition, individuals who are composting materials to be sold or distributed must demonstrate their competency by passing an exam at the department and becoming certified as a Compost Facility Operator.
This position offers a salary range of $38,582.00-$60,852.00 Yearly/annually based on qualifications, agency authority, agency budget, pay equity, and hiring salary guidelines.

Main Purpose of JobThe main purpose of the Office Clerk II position is to provide clerical, data entry, and troubleshooting duties for the State Chemist Section. The incumbent is responsible for entering payment and tonnage information in the State Chemist office, pertinent to agricultural commodities.
POSITION DUTIES Registration Payment EntryEnters payment information for both new products and renewals. Determines if received fees match the number of products to be registered. Transfer the registration documents to the individual responsible for entering product details. Troubleshoots payment-related problems within Salesforce and makes corrections to the data.
TonnageProcess tonnage information for the State Chemist section which includes entering submitted information, contacting registrants regarding discrepancies, updating database and filing tonnage reports. Reports extreme inaccuracies to Supervisor.
Back-Up For Invoice Processing- Maintains fiscal records of purchases made by the program staff, including, but not limited to, purchases order, invoices, service contracts, instruments, etc.
- Organizes the above records in such a manner that they can be easily retrieved for an internal or external audit. Organize files so they may be archived or destroyed according to the programs’ Document Disposal Schedule. Monitor designated Invoices email for submitted fiscal records.
Answer main telephone line. Directs calls to the appropriate person and answers general questions. Respond to phone calls, e-mails and walk in with customers in a positive and professional manner. Assist registrants with online renewal related questions. Performs other duties as required for the operation of the Program.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:
Completion of the eighth grade.
Experience:
One year experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.
- Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for six months of the required experience.
- Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, data base, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required…
