Under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator, the director oversees and directs the daily operations and administrative responsibilities of a camp for children ages 2.5 to 6.
Responsibilities- Accept responsibility for the physical safety and emotional well-being of the children. Take responsibility for the program & program staff.
- Check IDs of person picking child up from camp/program.
- Review other necessary camp/program paperwork.
- Ensure children are properly supervised at all times.
- Communicate clearly and courteously with school personnel, center staff, specialized camp/program staff, parents, junior counselors and children.
- Oversee & direct the planning of a well-rounded program of recreational activities including: music, games, drama, arts and crafts, social activities and special events. (Activities may vary depending upon the specific requirements of each camp/program). Implement the camp/program as posted on the weekly calendar.
- Report accidents, property damage, or major disciplinary problems to the director.
- Oversee & direct the setting up and taking down of equipment and cleaning up area daily. Maintain cleanliness of the center, including picking up trash, sweeping floor daily, etc.
- Pick up snacks and supplies from the Department’s warehouse.
- Wear required HCRP staff shirt and name tag. Wear appropriate closed toed shoes for activities (no flip flops unless approved by Program Supervisor/Coordinator).
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor / Coordinator.
- Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the inclusion companion(s) and/or interpreter, completion of evaluation reports, and verification of companion timecards.
- Assistant Director covers the Director position if the Director becomes unavailable.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Oversee and direct the securing of the Camp/Program Participant Information Form for each child.
- Oversee and direct the preparing weekly calendar and post on site.
- Ensure that parents sign children in and out each day. Maintain accurate attendance sheet at all times.
- Oversee and direct the preparation of camp/program newsletter or correspondence.
- Complete accident/incident reports accurately and turn into Camp/Program director.
- Document and notify supervisor / coordinator with any concerns regarding staff or children.
- Must be 20 years old.
- Ability to effectively meet the social, emotional and physical needs of the children in the camp/program.
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, peers and participants.
- Knowledge of camp/program curriculum.
- Infant and Child CPR certification required by the beginning of the camp/program.
- Professional experience working with preschool children.
- Preschool assistant, instructional aide or senior staff preferred.
- Completion of high school.
- Early Childhood, Elementary, or Physical Education course work preferred.
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Contingent - Paraprofessional
Minimum wage to $30/hour
