Description
Nichols Contracting, Inc. (NCI) is a family‑owned and operated construction and contracting business headquartered in Columbia, MD with offices in Richmond, VA, Royal Palm Beach, and Orlando, FL and a team of 170 employees. NCI is a full‑service general contractor focused on providing premier services in all aspects of the construction process, from concept to completion. We manage a broad range of commercial construction projects, including new construction, tenant fit‑outs, and renovations.
NCI serves a diverse group of markets including federal, state, and local governments, as well as a variety of corporate and special‑industry organizations that require complex life safety and critical infrastructure needs.
- Assist skilled workers as assigned, such as demolition, carrying lumber, or other construction tasks.
- Unload materials delivered (e.g., lumber, bags of cement) and distribute them to the correct location per supervisor, project plans, or specifications.
- Prepare layout area for construction by measuring, marking, or recording openings or distances.
- Prepare tools and materials for skilled workers, such as mixing cement or preparing floor for installation.
- Clean and prepare specific areas of the job site as assigned, which may include digging trenches, erecting scaffolding, cleaning rubble, debris, and trash, or removing hazardous materials.
- Operate a wide variety of hand and power tools.
- Direct traffic near, in, or around work zones.
- Assist equipment operators with alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
- Clean job site at the end of the day, ensuring trash is disposed of and materials or equipment are stored properly.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions.
- Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change.
- Ability to work with a variety of personalities.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic as needed to count and take inventory.
- Prior job experience preferred.
- Valid state driver’s license.

Hourly RateStarting at $18.50 per hour plus performance‑based bonus incentives.
Physical Requirement- Must have physical strength, balance, hand‑eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50‑pound loads at a time.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds.
- Must be able to work some Saturdays and at night, when needed.
