LM OVERHEAD CONSTRUCTION TECHNICIAN
- Under the direct supervision of the Construction Foreman, the Construction Technician performs general construction tasks, ranging from skilled to unskilled work with varying responsibility and complexity depending on project requirements.
- Ensure that all tasks are carried out safely, professionally, and in accordance with the Construction Foreman’s instructions and recognized industry standards.
- Work overtime as needed to meet project demands and report to work punctually.
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions accurately and efficiently.
- Possess mathematical facility and knowledge to learn carpentry principles, practices, and procedures, including plumb/level/square, foot/inch measurements and calculations, and the ability to cut, shape, and modify construction materials to specification.
- Use and assist others in operating a variety of hand and power tools safely—hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, wrenches, etc.; power tools such as drills, saws, sanders, grinders, jackhammers, etc.
- Drive company vehicles safely and transport construction supplies to and from the job site conscientiously.
- Develop and sustain cooperative working relationships.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform all forms of manual labor as directed (e.g., carrying materials, digging, compacting, shoveling, raking, seeding, mulching, laying sod, placing rocks and bricks).
- Assist with the maintenance, proper operation, and organization of all tools, equipment, storage areas, vehicles, work areas, and materials assigned to the Construction Crew.
- Ensure that all assigned work is carried out in accordance with the Construction Foreman’s directions and specifications.
- Assist with the removal and construction of vehicular bridges, related stream erosion tasks, off‑site prefabrication, and on‑site construction.
- Assist with installing basketball goals, volleyball nets, softball backstops, and related recreational equipment.
- Assist with the repair, removal, and construction of tot lots and community playgrounds.
- Carry out basic heavy equipment duties such as loading materials on trucks with a skid steer or rubber tire equipment and transporting construction materials to and from the job site.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with managers, foremen, and other co‑workers to carry out work assignments efficiently and accurately.
- Inspect vehicles and complete appropriate vehicle inspection reports accurately.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all company policies, including those related to absence and punctuality.
- Driving Privileges: Ability to comply with Columbia Association’s driving requirements, including a valid Class C driver’s license issued by the resident state.
- Experience: Some experience in the construction trade is preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Familiarity, or ability to learn, basic construction principles, practices, and procedures; ability to apply plumb/level/square, make foot/inch measurements, and perform basic cutting, drilling, nailing, screwing, and planing of a wide variety of building materials.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOT Medical Examiner’s Certification.
- As a condition of employment, obtain and maintain a valid Maryland CDL‑Restricted A license either prior to hiring or within one year of employment; failure to obtain a valid Maryland CDL‑A license within one year will result in termination.
- Perform construction‑related activities for prolonged periods in adverse weather conditions.
- Work at different heights (roofs, scaffolds, ladders, lifts, etc.).
- Stand for the entire shift.
- Lift up to 80 pounds unassisted.
- Bend, stoop, reach, and climb without difficulty.
The pay range is $20 per hour to $24 per hour, based on qualifications and available budget. Part‑time benefits include a free Fit & Play membership, wellness benefits, and some paid leave.
