GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
As the chief academic officer, the Provost is a member of the senior leadership team, and reports to the president of the college. The provost will provide academic leadership, guidance, resources, and direction across both the teaching and learning and student success divisions of the college to ensure the creation and maintenance of an integrated student experience. The provost provides visionary leadership to promote and foster excellence across all academic divisions, admissions, enrollment management, and student success support teams.
As a strategic leader, the provost guides the academic direction of the college as the chief advocate of the college’s academic and student focused mission. The provost will develop the academic architecture of the college, promotes excellence in teaching, and works to ensure student success from enrollment through graduation in alignment with HCC’S missions, goals, and values as articulated by the college president.
The provost leads and directs the planning and setting of academic values, policies, and practices across the college. The provost will provide executive level guidance across both teaching and learning and student success divisions of the college to create a campus culture that promotes student engagement, provides a safe and welcoming campus environment for a diverse student body, and ensures the quality of the educational experience.
The provost serves as a leader in long-term planning of educational programs, assuring quality of instruction, and furthering the strategic plan, the academic plan, and the goals and objectives of the college. The provost provides vision and direction in planning, organizing, and leading academic programs and services to fulfill the college mission and achieve college goals and objectives in support of student learning both inside and outside of the classroom.
The provost as the chief academic and student success officer will exercises final approval authority across both teaching and learning and student success including the review and approval of all proposed actions to be presented to the President and/or the Board of Trustees, including but not limited to policies, procedures, reports, faculty contracts, purchasing transactions, personnel actions, and other matters having significance impact to the academic direction of the college.
WORKPERFORMED
- The provost has general oversight and responsibility for the planning, development, and evaluation of academic programs.
- Provides leadership in maintaining a student-centered philosophy and focus for academic initiatives with a clear focus on successful student outcomes including placement, retention, graduation, and transfer success.
- Provides oversight and direction in establishing college-wide measures of institutional effectiveness and monitors progress relative to specific annual and long-term goals.
- Approves and allocates subsequent disbursement of college resources relative to academic affairs in a manner consistent with the goals of the strategic plan as approved by the college President.
- Promotes the delivery and execution of academic programs in advancement of the college’s mission to ensure alignment with the strategic plan of the college as articulated by the college president.
- Reviews, research, and revises academic policies, plans, and programs to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff.
- Reviews, recommends, and approves all promotions, retentions, special hires, tenure decisions, and new appointments of faculty and academic staff, and guides academic divisions and departments in the establishment of promotional and tenure policies.
- Provides leadership and oversight for establishing an environment which promotes respect for students, faculty, and staff and recognizes initiative and excellence.
