Reporting to the Senior Assistant Director of Outreach and Client Services, this position works directly with students to enhance their understanding of opportunities for, and processes and responsibilities of a financial aid recipient. This position provides students, families, UNLV staff, internal and external community with information about financing higher education. The Financial Aid Counselor will need to know details of and be able to explain many important types and concepts for higher education funding including scholarships, debt management strategies, costs of attendance, basic financial planning, financial aid policy & procedure, necessary paperwork for specific processes, follow up (electronic correspondence, phone calls), business processes, how to navigate web portals (both UNLV and external), and interactive applications.

This individual also attends outreach activities where they can meet 1:1 with prospective and current students and parents, explain financial aid processes and review student accounts for eligibility and award status and will provide group presentations as necessary. All positions in Academic Affairs contribute to our core mission: to increase enrollment and promote equitable student success. By addressing systemic obstacles and implementing strategic services, programs, and support, this position will play a part in enhancing student enrollment, retention, successful progression, timely completion, and equitable outcomes, in order to meaningfully contribute to the institution's commitment to expand access, grow enrollment, and promote career-ready student success that leads to timely graduation.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 1-3 years of Related Professional Experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
  • Other educational requirement or equivalency:
    Degree must be from a regionally accredited program within higher education. Employee must not be in over payment or default status for any Federal Student Aid program or award.
  • Required experience:

    Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with valid auto insurance.
