Position Summary: Are you interested in working with children and teens, building safe and inclusive environments, and delivering high impact youth development programming? As a Youth Development Coordinator with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore, you will do just that! The Youth Development Coordinator (YDC) delivers high-quality programs and activities for Boys & Girls Club members in the areas of healthy lifestyles, arts and culture, academic success, and character and leadership.
Club members range in age from 6-18, and the YDC will implement developmentally appropriate programs across that age range, under the leadership and guidance of Club management. The YDC is enthusiastic about building a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for young people on a community college campus. They will work directly with youth in program spaces, support positive behavior guidance, and ensure program activities reflect the mission and values of the Club.
Program Delivery & Youth Engagement
- Lead and assist with delivery of quality program activities and experiences that promote a sense of purpose and empowerment for members.
- Build appropriate relationships with a diverse group of Club members, ages 6-18, that can serve as a foundation for program implementation.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and fun environment where all youth feel safe and encouraged to participate.
- Motivate preteens and teens to participate fully and meaningfully in programs.
- Foster an environment that offers youth choices, incorporates team building, and promotes a sense of belonging and group identity for members.
- Coordinate program activities in accordance with Club Manager’s program goals and incorporate the needs and interests of members.
- Regularly gather information and feedback from members about their program needs and interests and communicate those to the Club Manager.
- Effectively implement programs, services, and activities for drop-in members.
- Track member attendance and participation in assigned programs and track the progress of members as needed.
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly Club staff meetings and work as an integral part of a team under Club management.
- Understand and follow all BGCMB safety policies and procedures.
- Complete and stay up to date with all required trainings and certifications required by BGCMB.
- Show up on time and prepared for all scheduled work days.
- Keep the Club clean and tidy, creating a welcoming environment for members before the start of the day and cleaning up after programs are finished.
- Understand and articulate the value of BGCMB and serve as an advocate for youth and the field of youth development.
- Other duties as assigned by Club management.
- High school diploma or GED required; additional education in a related field a plus
- Experience working with children and a track record of creating safe, inclusive environments
- Strong communication and relationship building skills
- Ability to coach youth; model healthy behaviors; and manage challenging youth behavior appropriately, through a lens of positivity, and with self-regulation
- Track record of adaptability and reliability
- Ability to use the computer and learn Microsoft Office
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications
- Reliable transportation required; valid driver’s license a plus
