Salary Range

The full pay range for this role is $30 to $35 per hour. We generally base our salary decisions on factors including but not limited to relevant work, leadership experience, education, demonstrated performance, internal equity, and in some cases, geographic location.

Scope of Job

The Design Engineer Intern will have a focus on learning about solar and battery storage project assignments and, under the direction of the Engineering Manager, become proficient in creating, reviewing, and managing engineering deliverables. Duties include both day‑to‑day tasks as assigned and longer‑term, broader scope responsibilities associated with specific projects. As part of the Engineering team, the Intern will support projects throughout the project life cycle: project development and conceptual design, project design for construction, project documentation following construction, and operations and maintenance.

The Intern will follow work practices and conventions established within the Engineering team, and engage in refining and documenting design/engineering processes, best practices, code compliance, and product/system application details. The Intern must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in communicating complex technical topics with non‑technical audiences. They will be responsible for clear communications and effective interactions both internally within the Company and with company consultants, contractors, clients, and partners.

Internship Duration: 12 weeks beginning May 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare engineering deliverables, including plan and elevation drawings, schematics, calculations, and schedules in support of PV (photovoltaic) energy generation system design, for commercial and utility projects in the 1 MW to 200 MW scale. Develop designs in consideration of company safety program and OSHA safety requirements for construction and system operation.
  • Create, organize, and maintain documents associated with projects’ basis of design throughout the project life cycle.
  • Communications with Project Managers, who coordinate scheduling and permitting for project execution.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Goals of Internship

Gaining an understanding of PV Design concepts while supporting the EDFps Distribution Scale Power Design Engineering team.

Skills to Acquire

Layout and electrical design of utility scale PV systems for cost effective constructability and adherence to the NEC.

Working Conditions

The intern may be invited to visit up to three sites, which could be located anywhere within the contiguous United States.

Qualifications Education / Experience
  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student specializing in design or construction engineering.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Design experience, particularly in designing electrical systems or electrical systems for construction preferred.
  • NABCEP PV Associates certification preferred.
  • Experience with industry‑standard PV systems and energy modeling tools preferred.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship (F‑1 Visa, OPT, CPT, etc.) is not and will not be available for this position.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • National Electric Code and other model codes.
  • Computer‑based drafting experience (AutoCAD).
  • Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office suite products.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
