Senior FPGA Engineer – Columbia, MD
Onsite position in Columbia, MD. The role involves designing, implementing, and testing FPGA‑based firmware solutions for RF and photonic hardware prototypes.
What You Will Do- Design and code FPGAs using high‑level synthesis tools to enable demonstrations of RF or photonic hardware prototypes.
- Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team setting to solve complex engineering problems.
- Perform hands‑on integration and troubleshooting of solutions to ensure functionality.
- Serve as a technical resource to the organization.
- Participate in internal and external technical reviews.
- Independently drive projects and execute to program schedules and budget.
Typically a STEM degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Must have experience in at least 4 of the following categories:
- Digital design and HDL coding targeting configurable logic devices.
- MATLAB/Simulink.
- Delivering FPGA solutions to system‑level applications.
- Familiarity with one or more FPGA brands (Altera, Lattice, Microchip, AMD) and associated tools.
- High‑level synthesis tools such as Cadence Stratus, Mathworks HDL coder, or Altera DSPBuilder.
- Integration and debugging of electronics using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, etc.
- FPGA timing constraints and timing closure.
- Python or C programming.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in digital signal processing.
- Gigabit serial interfaces and multi‑gigabit transceivers (MGTs).
- Embedded processor and System‑on‑Chip development for FPGA devices.
- Familiarity with the Linux environment and commands.
- FPGA design experience using a Linux‑based development environment.
- Rapid prototyping and hardware integration, including testing and verification.
- Experience with RF or photonic systems.
- Self‑motivated problem solver with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and team‑work skills.
Position requires a U.S. government‑issued security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required; only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
