Job Overview
We’re seeking a highly skilled System Safety Engineer to support the development of a safety‑critical FAA program within a complex, mission‑critical environment. This individual will play a key role in supporting FAA Safety Management System (SMS) initiatives related to Voice Communications Systems (VCS), reliability engineering, systems engineering, and safety risk management activities.
Responsibilities- Lead and support System Safety Program activities for FAA Voice Communications System (VCS) initiatives in alignment with FAA Safety Management System (SMS) processes
- Support Reliability Engineering efforts for safety‑critical communication systems
- Assist Systems Engineering and System Test activities for FAA VCS‑related programs
- Prepare materials for and participate in Safety Risk Management Panels (SRMP)
- Develop and maintain System Safety documentation and analyses
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, testing, reliability, and program management teams
- Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience with FAA Safety Management System (SMS)
- Experience developing:
- System Safety Program Plans (SSPP)
- System Hazard Analyses (SHA)
- Subsystem Hazard Analyses (SSHA)
- Operating & Support Hazard Analyses (O&SHA)
- System Safety Assessment Reports (SSAR)
- Safety Requirements Verification Tables (SRVT)
- Experience supporting Safety Risk Management Panels (SRMP) related to Air Traffic Control and/or Voice Communication systems
- Background supporting aerospace, aviation, defense, telecommunications, or other highly regulated industries
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum of 5 years of safety engineering or related experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience considered (15+ years of relevant experience)
- FAA experience or familiarity with FAA‑regulated systems and environments
- Prior experience supporting Federal Government or DoD programs
- High‑availability or fault‑tolerant systems
- Reliability and survivability analysis
- Safety‑critical engineering programs
- Air Traffic Management systems
- Radio Control Equipment
- VoIP systems and telecommunications infrastructure
- Federal Government project environment
- Hybrid/onsite expectations may apply depending on project phase and assignment
- Candidates must be eligible to work on U.S. Government‑related programs
