Commissioning Engineer — Columbia, MD
MSTB is seeking a Commissioning Professional to join our growing team. We specialize in providing commissioning services for a diverse range of projects, including large-scale commercial, institutional, and government buildings.

Job Overview:
- Review project owner documents, plans, specifications, and design documents.
- Inspect building systems (mechanical, electrical power, plumbing, fire protection, building automation, access control, building enclosure).
- Develop and execute commissioning test plans and procedures.
- Report commissioning activities, findings, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and building owners to resolve commissioning issues and ensure project success.
- Stay current on industry codes, standards, and best practices.
What You Bring To The Team:
- Background in one or more of the following disciplines: building enclosure, mechanical, electrical power, plumbing, and/or fire protection/detection systems.
- Hands-on experience in commissioning, construction inspection, validation, measurement and verification, or a related field within the A/E/C industry.
- Ability to identify and analyze problems and develop effective solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create clear and concise reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to navigate active construction sites, including walking, climbing ladders, and occasional usage of lifts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Commissioning Professional or Licensed Engineer.
- 4+ years of commissioning experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architecture, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Experience with LEED or other sustainability certifications.
- Familiarity with building codes and industry standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Construction Management Software, and Commissioning Software platforms.
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain military base clearance.
- Sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Travel Up to 75% local travel in Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia. Limited overnight stays. Most weeks include multiple site days plus time for reporting and closeout documentation.
